I recently installed Debian etch onto my
HP N5495 laptop. It appears to be running well and I'm quite happy with it. I do have three "issues" that I'd like to resolve though...
1) I've tested, and this laptop won't hibernate when running on battery and the battery gets low. I can view the battery state with acpi. The hibernate command does work. How can I get this laptop to hibernate when battery power gets to, say 15%?
2) The native resolution on this laptop is 1400x1050. I can't get grub to start a framebuffer at this resolution, or for X to show a desktop at that resolution. Graphics chip in an Intel 82830GM.
I have vga=834 on the kernel line of my menu.lst file. Grub complains that this is not a valid value, but it then accepts it if I type it in. I actually get more "real estate" (smaller characters) if I enter 838, but that does not utilize the whole screen.
How can I get the most characters on my screen while utilizing all 1400x1050 that the LCD provides? (and, how do I get an image as a background on my framebuffer, once I get it working properly?)
Also, how can I get X to run at 1400x1050?
The laptop also supports dualhead with an external VGA monitor, but I'll worry about that WAY down the road.
3) This laptop has several media keys (cd controls, www, email, help, etc.) as well as a synaptics touchpad.
How can I get these keys working while outside of X? It would be nice to control the volume, or launch Lynx, etc.
Also, the Synaptics touchpad seems to work OK in X, but I see many references to "configuring" it for more functionality. What else can this pad do? Any references that I can read?
ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated!
