Archived from groups: comp>os>linux>alpha (more info?)

I recently got AS1200 and am trying to install Gentoo on it. I did it
exactly as it is told in Gentoo installation document. After installing
the bootloader, reboot fails, here are the messages :

(other stuff ...)
Mounting /proc filesystem
Creating block devices
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 6 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Umount /initrd/proc failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 336k freed
kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to
kernel.

I did everything exactly as in installation doc, except that :

1. My root device is located on /dev/sdc (/dev/sdc1 is swap, and
/dev/sdc2 is root).

2. I made initrd with my SCSI QLogic board driver, because at first it
didn't boot even to the point I mention above. I added initrd= option i
aboot.conf

I tried passing init=/sbin/init, but it doesn't help. The ext3 support
is compiled directly into the kernel.

WTF? I'd appreciate if someone helps. previously there ws a Debian
installation on this box, but I want Gentoo.
