Archived from groups: comp>os>linux>alpha (more info?)

I have been testing Matrox Millenium and S3.Trio.64+ on AS4100 (3CPU, 8
PCI).

Video cards was olways the lowest slot, since any way Xorg never detects
second PCI chain, I never tried so high Smile

I have been passing kernel opts
vga=791
and
video=matroxfb (plus resolutions.

The parameters were exactly the same ones as for those cards when they
were on PC (so, I am 100% sure resolution/freq was supported by the card).

Kernel never told me what was wrong, but I never had any frame buffer.

Any known problem on AS4100 ?

I didnt take time to test AS1200, but some people have no problem with
Alphas that support AGP. Any way to try to activate FB after boot just
to catch some error message ?

Personally, I've never tried running a Matrox as a frame buffer device...
How about a standard PCI [VGA] device in the 1st PCI slot? that's the way
I've always done it... Granted I've never messed with a AS4100...

Oh, another thing, instead of passing kernel flags, how about just simply
editings your Xorg.conf or running the configurator? It has support for FB
devices.. Will L G
