I am running Slackware 12.2 on a small home LAN. I would like to
replace my current wireless router with a still-in-the-box Linksys
WRT54GL v1.1 Wireless G Broadband Router and upgrade it with DD-WRT
firmware.
On line, there are a number of step-by-step guides for doing this.
However, for a person of my limited experience there are a few gaps in
the explanations, and some conflicts among them. Also, the guides I
have seen seem to be somewhat dated (or of indeterminate date).
Is there anybody who has done this upgrade recently? If so, it would
help me a lot if I could ask you a few questions before I begin.
Thanks & Best Regards
Vwaju

Just for the record, your question is not on-topic for
alt.os.linux.slackware, no matter what OS you are running on your
desktop/laptop/server machines.
DD-WRT has a forum for questions, which is probably a better location
for your question. But if you really have a WRT54GL, you might give
OpenWRT a try. I use OpenWRT, and I am extremely happy with it. It
supports both v1.0 and v1.1 of the WRT54GL, and the documentation is
very good.

I apologize for posting off-topic. I'll be more careful in the
future.
That said, thanks for your advice about OpenWrt. I reviewed the
documentation, and it did seem like a better way to go. The
installation went smoothly. I have some quesitions about
configuration but, of course, I will direct them to appropriate forum
this time!

Good. Please don't multipost either (i.e., post the same message
multiple different times to multiple different groups). If you feel you
must reach multiple newsgroups (which is generally unnecessary)
crosspost instead.

I fail to see how you would be confused. You just go into the web
interface and point it to the new binary to flash it with. |

Not a lot here will fail to see why you should be confused

OK, as you seem to want to master some 'point and cblicpkpbflofst'
interfblfacbles you may like to study how to post with
on Usenet groups through G-G interface quoting properly
and eventually get read.
The sessions about actually incorporating a content in the posts
will come shortly after you'll get read at all ,^)
BTW, welcome to Usenet |
