Hi,
Any tips for how to get Flash working in Konqueror (latest Etch)?
I have the flashplugin-nonfree from Debian, the one from Adobe and the
mozplugin package, and have scanned for and found the .so files using the
Plugins tab of Control Center.
It works fine in Iceape.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Regards,
John

Hey John,
That seems weird, all I do is install the mozilla plugin then go into
Konqueror then Settings > Configure Konqueror > Plugins and click "scan for
new plugins". After a quick restart of Konqueror I'm up and running with
flash.

That's pretty much the same as I've done with the above versions of Flash;
they all show up nicely in Iceape's "About Plugins" dialogue and also in
Konqueror's Plugins panel; but still Flash does not always work correctly in
Konqueror.
Some simple animations work, but YouTube and MySpace slideshows don't, nor do
some "Just Played" pages from radio stations, and some websites actually
report that the browser has "passed invalid data to the server". Certain
types of links also fail to activate.
As Flash seems to be working for some Konqueror users, I'm wondering if there
is something I need to install or configure to complete it.
Any clues?
Thanks and regards,
John

Hi,
same here (latest SID). As far as I remember, youtube never worked. Where the
video should be played the text 'Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off
or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player' is shown.
Java and Javascript are enabled globally.
Packages that are installed:
libflash-mozplugin
konqueror-nsplugins
konq-plugins
flashplugin-nonfree
In konqueror settings->plugins there are the following plugin search
directories:
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/
/usr/lib/netscape/plugins-libc6
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
$MOZILLA_HOME/plugins
maybe something is wrong or missing???
Obviously konqueror-nsplugins puts its .so files into /usr/lib/kde3.
But adding this directory to the search list causes 'search for plugins' to
crash.
Any ideas?

Hi.
Similar issue. Youtube worked fine in iceape/firefox, but not in konqueror.
I have been looking and looking ... It finally appeared that Konqueror has
been using _old_ version of Flash plugin, located somewhere
in /usr/lib/netscape (similar name). The files there were from 2002 ... I
couldn't find their package, so I have deleted them by hand. Konqueror found
then other directory, with newer plugin version and YouTube started to
work
This is SID story - I hope it helps.

Robert

I purged flashplugin-nonfree and installed it again.
In konqueror->settings->plugins I changed the search directory list from
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins/
/usr/lib/netscape/plugins-libc6
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
$MOZILLA_HOME/plugins
to
/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/
After restarting konqueror, the flash stuff for youtube works.
Some plugins are still missing (e.g. kaffeine plugin), but i think it is just
about adding one or the other directory to the list.
Hope that helps a bit.
Regards, Tim

Thanks Tim,
Unfortunately, this did not solve the issue for my etch box. Some sites with
Flash do work, so as I do not really understand the relationship between
Flash and Javascript (which I have installed and enabled), I will do some
more research so I can submit an informed bug if appropriate, and get
back...BTW, yesterday's flashplugin-nonfree upgrade made sound work for the
first time with Flash in Iceape, but did not help with Konqueror.

John

I got an off-list request for this: Here's a sample of some webpages that do
not work as they should in Konqueror but do in Iceape:
http://www.myspace.com/etallovesyou
http://www.abc.net.au/dig/jazz/justplayed/default.htm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zlpWVOcx34
http://www.circusoz.com
The last one returns a page of text error messages; the rest just render
incompletely. If anyone feels like testing them... Another one is my bank's
secure pages (won't post that!) where Javascript links don't do anything in
(Etch) Konqueror but are OK in other browsers. However, other Javascript
elsewhere seems to work. I'm stumped; I'll just use Iceape where I need to I
guess!

John

Konqueror (KDE 3.5.5 SID) works ok for 2-4.
For 1 konqueror seems to 'loop' at a point, doesn't play any music.
Iceweasel has a problem with 4 (top bicycle animation is missing) while iceape
shows it correctly.
But after all, you are using Etch (which version of KDE/Koqueror is it?).

Thanks for the test.
I'm using latest Etch, Konqueror/KDE 3.5.5; but I guess some other relevant
packages are at different versions in Sid?

My $.02. I am using Konqueror 3.5.6. When I installed adobe flash from
non-free it installed to /usr/lib/iceweasel.... Konqueror still had
flash from a previous browser install, Netscape/Mozilla/firefox in the
plugin path. Removing the old paths and using the iceweasel solved it
here.

Hello John _et_al_,
I'm having the same Konqueror/Flash problem
on fedora6 running Konqueror 3.5.4-12.fc6;
Flash on FireFox works fine, Konqueror nay.
javascript enabled globally; plugins tab
shows
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
which is the same one firefox is using. This is
a new installation, so there's no old version
of flash to foul things up.
Thanks,
Alex
