It's a 6400n starting from £329 (inc VAT + del.) which £30 cheaper than
the equivalent Vista equipped one. Fully specced it will set you back £699.
If I was in the market for a new laptop I would get one of these.

Can you provide a link to that on Dell UK's website? I can't find it there.
Cheers,
Daniel. |

There is also a desktop available, but you need to phone up for it. |

<http://www.dell.co.uk/ubuntu> is the link. And yes, the lowest price
one's cheaper than the equivalent Vista one, but as I understand it
that sort of machine (512M) wouldn't be useful for even Vista Basic.
It would be a decent cheap GNU/Linux laptop, I guess, though probably
it could do with more memory (which you'd probably buy elsewhere since
Dell seem to want £141 whereas Crucial will sell 2G for £63.44).
Maybe add the DVD writer (since it's a cheap upgrade).
The next one up (in the Windows section) would be the 15.4" Widescreen
(£398.99), and if you cost the Ubuntu equivalent (T2080, 1G, DVD RW)
it seems to come to £405.37.
Call me cynical, but it looks like they've arranged for one model to
be cheaper to get the headlines, but actually most machines they
expect to sell will cost more than with Windows. So in a few months
they can drop the whole idea because of lack of demand. |
