Archived from groups: linux>redhat>devel (more info?)

Hi!

I'm have a software that uses the SG device for accessing a self made
IDE device from the user space. Thsi worked fine through a long time of
2.4 kernels. Now, with the kernel 2.6 this SG device seems to enter
something like a deprecated state. Additionally the new IDE drivers
should allow user space access as I read in some DVD burner FAQs.

My question now is, where to find som really helpful information of how
to migrate from this Sg device to the IDE driver. And is there a
possibilty to mount a device twice, i.e. sa a scsi device throug the
scsi-ide module and directly so that I don't have to reboot or mangle
around with the modules every time I want to try a step by step
conversion of the code.

Best regards and thanks for any help in advance

Ulrich
