Bug#416438: xserver-xorg-video-i810: XvMC IBM Thinkpad X40..

Hi,

A couple months ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding XvMC
not working on your thinkpad X40 with the i810 driver. Did you reproduce
this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core and
xserver-xorg-video-intel driver?

Hi Brice,

Indeed it still doesn't work with the i810 driver and I run a purely
testing environment and currently am not contemplating using packages
from unstable. From all the information I've read about the intel
driver XvMC 'should' work with the adaptor in the X40. I'm happy to
wait for that driver to filter in to testing in the future and test it then.

I would suggest closing this bug (if you've not already done so) and
I'll file a new wish-list bug under the new driver if XvMC doesn't work.

2:2.0.0-1 just entered testing actually Smile

But this one is known to have
multiple bugs on your i855 (especially regarding XV), so I don't expect
you to be very happy with it. 2:2.0.0-5 fixes most of these i855
specific problems, so it would better to test this one directly. If you
ever want to give a quick try, it's available at:

Your bug report is pretty clear, recent, the problem/symptoms did not
change. I'd rather keep it as is.

Looking at this more deeply, I actually noticed that XvMC is only
supported on i810/i815 chipsets. That's why the option is ignored and
XvMC does not work on your i855. Upstream confirmed that this is a
software limitation and they plan to implement XvMC for other Intel
chipsets in the future. So I am retitling this bug and changing it to a
wishlist.
