Bookmark trouble

Every once in a while, according to nothing I can articulate,
clicking on Bookmarks along the top of 9.63 (and maybe earlier; I
disremember) suddenly no longer gives me the list to choose from, but the
whole editing mode. And then it goes on doing so, most inconveniently,
for an indeterminate time, till it eventually goes back to behaving as
expected.

What could I be doing to cause this, and how do I fix it?

In case any of it is relevant: I run Fedora, and I keep all
machines set to launch things on single-click.

What is the 'whole editing mode'?

Sorry. It's what Opera calls "Manage Bookmarks." But instead of
getting it by first clicking on Bookmarks and then on that option, I get
it straight from clicking Bookmarks.

Once it starts doing that, it goes on doing it for a while, and
eventually returns to normal behavior.

I have no idea what I could be doing to make the misbehavior
start or stop; I'm not aware of doing anything any differently.
