Hi,
Anyone know if these beasts are worth the tenner or are they tied in
(somehow) to the Tevion service so I can't use them on Skype?

I've not had the chance to handle one, but seen through plastic in a
crowded shop display, it looks like a cheap USB mike/speaker in a handset
shape plus some software. If that's so then you could throw the software
away and use the handset as audio I/O for whichever softphone you prefer
(even Skype ).
OTOH you can also get those pseudo-handsets for a tenner elsewhere
("C-Set" is how hotplug detects my own rather low-quality one) so don't
fret if they all sell out.
If the Aldi one is a proper IPphone then I'd like to know too ! If I
had a tenner to spare I'd buy one just to check the sound quality,
and set it up for the kids if it proves to be like what I've already got.

This seems to be the original manufacturer.
http://www.yealink.com/en/newest.asp
Model: USB-P1KH
I have heard reports of them working with Skype on Windows.
I don't know if they will work with the Linux version.

In my local Aldi there are a couple in the end of line basket reduced to £9

I've one of those from another place. Modules are yealink (display,
ringer and so on) and snd-usb-audio (speaker and mic). Probably needs
USB keyboard support too. It's OK, but not great. alsamixer gets really
confused if you don't take it slowly.
Anyone know how to bind a USB keyboard to a particular window? I want the
phone to keep to the phone window.
Thanks in advance,

Eight quid (well 7.99) now in ours ... I've raided the piggy bank and
given in. This is what it presents as (USB mfr/dev 6993:b001)
[17259407.336000] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[17259407.500000] usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[17259407.520000] hiddev96: USB HID v1.00 Device [Yealink Network Technology Ltd. VOIP USB Phone ] on usb-0000:00:1d.2-1
[17259408.424000] usbcore: registered new driver yealink
[17259408.424000] drivers/usb/input/yealink.c: Yealink phone driver:yld-20051230
[17259408.696000] usbcore: registered new driver snd-usb-audio
Hotplug inserted yealink.ko automatically so it's detected OK, and
it recognises the keypad as a HID, but that's as far as I've got !
In particular nothing comes up in Twinkle when I press the keypad buttons,
and I can't see anything in lsusb that looks like it might be the display.
I'll post "lsusb -v" if anyone is really interested. This is with
Kubuntu Edgy.
Have to have a play over the next few days - any shortcuts welcomed

Not udev?

It should be listed in /proc/bus/input/devices. Its input & event numbers
won't be constant between uses, but there's probably a symlink or two in
/dev/input/by-* (note the Name and Phys strings).
Looks like you have an ALSA driver for it too; you should have a look at
/proc/asound/cards and /proc/asound/devices.

# evtest /dev/input/eventN
for the appropriate value of N.

Wouldn't know about that...

Hi,
I am not sure if anyone is still interested in getting the P1KH running in Linux. However, my observation is that
1. Yealink uses the same Vendor- & ProductID for many (all?) its USB phones.
2. The Linux modules yealink.ko just implements a driver for P1K (+B2K,P4K) but does not autodetect the actual "sub-product".
3. The P1KH differs from the P1K quite a bit. They use a different uC (P1K: CY7C64713, P1KH: HT82A832R) and the the USB messages are a bit different (eg. P1K 16 bytes/packet, P1KH 8 bytes/packet).
=> The current Linux driver won't work, which affects the key pad, buzzer, LED, and display. Sound should work fine though.
Another guy and I developed some sample code to start getting features working again, but more work needs to be done.

My dad bought one of these phones and wanted it to work with SKYPE. It looks exactly the same as my own YAMAMOTO usb phone so i installed their CALLME / SKYPEMATE plugin and PRESTO!! the phone works a treat! no need to sign up to the tevion deal.
You can get the software from :Yamamoto USB Phones goto their downloads and download skypemate for the o/s you have, then install it. |

Did you ever get this handset working correctly under Linux? I originally bought a P1K which worked fine, so I bought another and it turned out to be a P1KH. Bad news!
All the best

Hey,
sorry to dig up this old thread, but just in case someone is still interested in it - I have got the P1KH working now for Linux!
Take a look at http://www.devbase.at/svn/view.cgi/yealink-module/trunk/?root=voip to download the driver. Temporary subversion access is available via
| Code: |
| svn co --username guest svn://devbase.homelinux.org:5070/voip/yealink-module |
with the password "readonly".
