The script file /usr/bin/opera needs to be edited to update the list of
Sun Java versions.
I am using Sun Java jre1.6.0_01. The new beta version of Opera, as
installed, did not recognize the jre.
To make the jre work, I added a new line 112 to the stanza that begins as
follows:
for SUNJAVA in \
The new line that I added is this:
jre1.6.0_01 \

I don't have those lines yet java is being detected. |

What version of Sun Java is installed in your system?
If not Sun Java, what is the installed version of IBM or Blackdown Java?

I suspect that you still have an older sub tree in /usr/java/ which the
opera executable script is finding and using instead of using the newer
sub-tree /usr/java/jre1.6.0_01/
Please check /usr/java/ to see if there is an older version of jre present
in addition to jre1.6.0_01/.

Correction, clerical error:
This paragraph above:
The rpm install does not remove the older sub tree and unless the opera
script has the new sub tree in its list opera will find and use the older
version of opera.
Should read:
The rpm install does not remove the older sub tree and unless the opera
script has the new sub tree in its list opera will find and use the older
version of the jre.

I'm one of those who remove the old version before installing the new
version. My /usr/lib/jre1.6.0_01 is also symlink to /usr/lib/java. |

Thanks, I've notified the package maintainers.

Thank you.
Since I wrote my original message I have fetched a further package update
from Sun:
jre-6u2-linux-i586-rpm.bin
It installs as:
jre-1.6.0_02-fcs
And installs this sub-tree:
/usr/java/jre1.6.0_02
So I added a further line in the script file:
jre1.6.0_02 \
I have notices that the Sun jre packages also install and update these
symlinks:
/usr/java/default -> /usr/java/latest/
/usr/java/latest -> /usr/java/jre1.6.0_02/
I have not yet tried editing the script to insert one of these links and I
have not yet decided which one is the most appropriate for Opera. Perhaps
the maintainer might consider whether one of these symlinks could be
inserted into the /usr/bin/opera script to avoid having to edit the script
every time Sun updates its jre.
Regards,
Clive
