Hi Lisa -
You might also want to do a search for a free/open-source expenses program. I did this search: freshmeat.net: Search results - +expenses (it's a site with a lot of software), and found quite a few. Another good site is SourceForge.net. Just make a note of which operating systems they will run on (it has a lot of unix/Linux stuff). There are quite a few written in Java which means they will run on any operating system with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (free) installed. |

Hey,
I'v been learning C++ and it's not difficult at all to make programs that do calculations such as expenses and tax and things, download it and check out the help files they're pretty simple! I can lend a hand if you get stuck as long as it's not mega complicated!! lol

C++ Bloodshed is the one I use, it can be downloaded offline but I can't remember where so you'd need to search for it, or I can email it to you.

| You will need to program it litterally, but the help files will teach you syntax and things, if you get stuck I can lend a hand as long as you don't need any really complex loops or anything. |

Yep, I know, this is an old post I just came in here to add the Basic4ppc link and happened to check out this link. Lisa, if you still check this site and are still looking for software, let me know. I'm leased to Landstar Ranger, and I have an Open Office spreadsheet and some other software that I've been using for the past 6 years. Maybe I can help you out! |

I use an Open Office spread sheet that I designed. (Open Office, if your not familiar, is basically the 'free' version of Microsoft Office) I also have what I call a 'Load Journal'. The 'Load Journal' is a document that I created with Open Office and keep with my log book. Any cash purchases; fuel, food, scales, tolls, etc are recorded in that journal associated with the Load that I was carrying at that time. At the end of the week, I take my carrier settlement sheet, my check book, and my Load Journal and enter all the figures into the spread sheet.
I also have a program that I wrote (and am currently updating) to track all that stuff. If you would like copies of any of those items, PM/EMAIL me with what you're interested in and an email address I can send the stuff to. The program is about 1.25Mbytes and the documents are about 50Kbytes. |

Please take into account that writing a new data management system is no easy task. It will likely need MySQL injections and databases to manage the input data and will probably be written using lots of VB and windows dependent libraries which will probably end up as a big un maintainable mess..
On the other hand it is quite achievable with OOP or Generic programming. Anyway its something to think about. |
