Hello,

Try visiting the Windows Update web site on your computer and downloading all updates, patches and hot fixes for the operating system.

Then visit Acer's web site, find the downloads for the Extensa 5230 and download the latest webcam drivers for the built-in webcam and install them on the notebook computer. If your webcam is from another manufacturer, visit their web site, instead.

Your advice is usually right on target, and I learn from it.

Why would installing new drivers fix a system that once worked and stopped working when no hardware change or other software change occurred? Clearly, new drivers might work if there is new hardware or software around, but that does not seem to be the case here.

Well, January 13th was MS's patch Tuesday. MS's patches have been known to break things. If that is the case, sometimes manufacturers do release patches to fix whatever MS did.

Hello,

Good question.

It is possible a change occurred to the system, unknown to the user. Getting the system current with respect to the operating system path level and device drivers is one possible way to resolve an issue such unnoticed changes.
