| I don't want to use IE for my browser but it doesn't show up in ADD/REMOVE programs. Of course. Can I uninstall it (some way that you will direct me) and will that, or is there a way to end the updates. I turned off automatic updates but I don't want to miss important ones just to avoid the IE ones.
Thanks

| Basically, you can't! Also, parts of I.E. are used for other parts of Windows. For instance, printing, and viewing is controlled by I.E.! Some of the security updates for I.E. are to protect the Windows O.S. Just install Fire Fox, and ignore I.E. - except when you need to use it for Windows Updates. Or, you can wait for Windows 7, which does allow I.E. to be "removed".

| I do not have windows updates turned on. Thursday or Friday after patch Tuesday, I go to Windows update and click the custom button. I'm then offered the patches for IE 6, which I'm running on 2K, because it can't use IE 7 and also on XP. Keep IE patched even if you never use it to browse. I also have activex and scripting turned to prompt me. That way, if I get to a site I'm not sure about and testing IE, I will not get any controls running behind my back. |

In my own experience, I.E.7 can YES be UN-Installed, only if it were installed over I.E.6. In which case when you UN-Install I.E.7, then I.E.6 will resume its role as the MS Browser. I had to do that several times when I.E.7 first came out and trashed peoples O.E.6 (which I also use).
Life is just so much simpler when you take the big blue "e" off of the desktop and install Firefox and let it install as your Default Browser.
Adding the "I.E.Tab" add-on to FF can keep you from ever needing to open I.E.x at all. Little things like that just keep things "Simple".
Cheers Mates!

Well, I did see you mentioned Win-7, but that's not the theme of this thread.
It's I.E. 7 !!!
Win-7 doesn't even enter into the problem and should have been left out of it.
If I.E.7 was factory installed on the PC, then removing it will probably NOT be possible at all.
However, if it was installed as a MS Update, then it should appear in ADD/Remove programs and can surely be DE-Installed.
That was my point.
As for Windows 7, it will come with I.E.8, not I.E.7.
I'm testing Win-7 now and I use Firefox 3.5 exclusively.
With the I.E.Tab add-on, you can even do MS Updates from within Firefox.
Nuff said, and NO, I've not been hit by lightning..............Yet!
But, with up to 9,000 lightning strikes per day in the area, it's always a possibility.

You can't entirely uninstall Internet Explorer but you can remove it. Here's how.
1). Go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.
2}.Look on the left side of the window and select Add/Remove Windows Components from the list.
3).Find Internet Explorer on the list and remove the check mark from next to it. Do not remove any other check marks.
4}.Click next and follow prompts till finished.
Internet Explorer should now be effectively removed. Hope this helps. |
