Hello,

Have you checked with HCL's technical support department to see what sort of cabling you need to connect a 4.1 channel surround sound speaker system to the model of notebook your father purchased?

Most sound cards(even on laptops), have 3 holes.
1. mic
2. speaker
3. line in

Normal hookups, would put the Front speakers in "speaker", Center speaker in "mic" or "line in", and Rear speakers taken the connection that is left over.

PS... your mileage may vary with this information. I would do as Goretsky said, and look up the connections and wiring for that laptop.

If that doesn't work, you can always try some logitech laptop speakers.

Check to see if the output is set to digital or analog then set it to what you need for your speakers. My father called me asking for help with his Acer laptop. He had a set of normal analog stereo speakers and he didn't get any sound out of them when he plugged them in. After checking all the settings we found that the audio out was set to digital surround sound. One or two mouse clicks latter he had sound coming out of his speakers.
