running xp 64 AMD 3500 cpu 2 gig of memory. 200 gig hard drive and a 13 gig hard drive

I have spent numerous hours on the phone with tech support. basicly worked though the problem did get the scanner to work.

did have there cd blow up in the cd burner and distroy it.

I have had it not intialized but now the problem seems to be and I beleive it is the hp twain driver take the cpu process to 100% this is the hpqscnvw.exe

If I attempt to use the windows software than the svchost.exe goes 100%
I have followed th uninstall procedures went in and cleaned out the registries and used the uninstalled that hp recommends to no avail.

right now I attempted to scan and the light came on and i heard some activitie from the scanner then nothing. that is when I will check the task manager and it will be at 100%.

I have reinstalled this software with every patch that hp has to offer and it will not work

there software seems to install ok I know that I have to leave the usb unpluged until it tells me to plub it in.

now the hp tech has told me that there software engineers are aware of the problem and was going to release software to correct the problem but the last update was in november of 2007.

they have down loaded software on to my computer and they could not come up with a solution

What OS are you running? This is so I can advise others not to purchase a Scanjet g4010.

Out of curiosity, do you have any other instances of the "twain" drivers installed?

The reason I asked was that I just had a problem installing a Brother Multifunction unit. (It was the InstallShield program itself). The upshot was that every time it failed, I had to clean all the misc. caches and especially all the temp files. When an install "sees" these temp files, it won't install properly. I had the same problem years ago with an HP printer that kept seeing an identical file in a temp directory!
