I've a very simple network set up within Vista, basically two desktops cabled via a router, and a wireless laptop. All is OK, except that when I look at the Network folder it has started to show what appear to be duplicates of shared folders on the other PC's ... not all, just some of them.
There is a slight name change, so if the original folder was called 'Photos', the additional ones will be 'Photos~1', 'Photos~2' etc.
They will all apparently give me access to the same location, but obviously, 2 of them are un-necessary ... I've no idea at all how they are created, or how to get rid of them, as a normal 'delete' has no effect.
Powering down all PC's (and the router) and rebooting has no effect either.

Any thoughts or ideas please?

I have had the same problem in Vista, and still do now in 7. There seems to be some sort of mechanism that pulls several folders together into one "category" such as "Documents" or "Pictures" (my Pictures" category seems to incluce files from at least 3 different folders). It is not clear to me (or, apparently to others) how, exactly this works. But it clearly sometimes goes bonkers.

Virtually all the bells and whistles Windows has to "make it easier" for the inept user, seems to make life more difficult for the knowledgable one. sigh...

Aaaarh! I know. I SHOULD have better things to keep me busy ... but this is NOT going to go away by itself, and is STILL irritating me in that insidious way stuff does, particularly when its unimportant stuff! Very Happy

Any help with getting rid of the ghosts / duplicates please? Rolling Eyes
