If you are prepared to pay for advertising, one way is to get links to your site on as many other sites as possible, as more back-links will increase your rankings. Here are a couple of sites where you can buy text links to be displayed on other sites:

Text Link Ads - Smart Link Marketing & LinkWorth | Search Engine Marketing - Text Link Advertising

You can also offset the cost of buying links on other sites by having other members pay you to display text links to their sites on your site.

You might want to look at getting some sponsored posts on blogs, as those posts will appear in search results and send traffic to your site. A couple of good ones are Blogsvertise Blog Advertising & PayPerPost.

As for free methods, you run a blog so you might want to join up with some free communities such as MyBlogLog, Platform for Blog Communities @ BUMPzee!, Technorati: Home & spicypage | submit your site or blog free to spread the word about your site, as the more visitors you get the more chance someone will write about your site and link back to it.

You might also want to contact bloggers with similar sites and see if they will link to your site if you link to theirs.

Do be selective with your strategy though. Google just went through again and changed some rules that may hurt blogs with tons of links out.
