Hi everyone
Was hoping anyone here can help me out here with this problem
The problem I’ve got here is that every time I attempt to log in, an error window appears:
SAS window – winlogon.exe – application error
The instruction at “0x……” reference memory at “0x……” could not be written
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
Regardless of which button I click on, the computer keeps rebooting again and again.
I’ve tried logging in through safe-mode, but with the same results.
I’ve also tried repair-installing windows XP, but I keep getting an error, something along the lines of:
There was an error in copying the file “rdpwd.sys”
After the repair installation, the winlogon.exe problem is still there
I’ve also tried using this hard drive as a slave drive on another computer, but the problem is all the information and data I need is under a password protected user, which means I cannot access it.
I’ve really run out of ideas of fixing this problem, and desperately need to get the information from this computer. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| You did all the right things. You can't fix this problem with a Windows repair; only a clean install can "fix" this from all that I know about it.
To get to your data on the slave drive boot from a Linux Live CD.
Good luck.

I've considered a clean install, but like I said before, I need some of the information that is stored under a user-protected account, which I can't access through as slave drive.
Will Linux Live CD overcome this, even though this is a Windows XP? |

Hello,
Have you tried mounting the hard disk drive in another computer, taking ownership of the files (if required) and then copying them to another hard disk drive or backing them up to another medium such as optical disc or tape?
Regards,

Hi
I've used Linux to copy the files, but at the moment, I can't copy from C: (the drive where the files are located under the password protected account) to D: (the other half of the partition drive). When i try to change the read-write mode (in order to be able to write to D , it keeps saying to use 'captive-ntfa' driver.
As it is, I'm using my 1gb USB stick to transfer the files, and I've got over 40 gigs of it. It'll be next year before I finish this.
Any suggestions? |
