My computer is one I built myself from parts I’ve salvaged. It’s a Pentium, 500 MHz, with a 20gig hard drive, a cd burner that doesn’t burn, and a monitor that flickers and gives me a headache. Meanwhile, my tendency to become “intrigued” by computer problems and my ability to search out answers online has convinced my friends and neighbors that I am “really good” at fixing computers – which is a blessing because it gives me the opportunity to use top of the line Dell’s and Gateways that I’d otherwise never see outside of magazines. It’s also a curse, because as soon as the problem is solved I’m back to my dinosaur. I know three people who have bought top of the line Dell’s in the past six months and all any of them do is type letters, print pictures and email their family.. My landlord has a DVD burner in his Dell – he uses it to play the Hoyle Card Games CD his kid gave him for Christmas five years ago.

I keep seeing magazine articles that say stuff like “everyone has a couple of old computers gathering dust” and how much of a problem they are to dispose of Idea and I want to offer to help out with that – I will happily take one of those “problems” off your hands! Or even just a spare part or two! How’s about a working CD burner? Or a monitor that doesn’t flicker and weighs less than fifty pounds? Or an optical mouse? I can pay $50 or so for shipping – and would be eternally grateful for the opportunity to help you clean out your closet!

Bring a truck!
I've got 9 runnable computers sitting around here taking up valuable floor space. Also a few monitors, and boxes of spare parts.
NO, I won't ship them. Laughing Laughing (You haul!)

I recently gave 7 working PC's to a friend of mine who will probably part them out. I'm thinking of just parting out these units I've got and making bird houses out of them. They're not heavy enough for boat anchors. Laughing Laughing

There's no reason to have a DVD burner that's broke! I just bought two brand new NEC 12x DVD burners for $30 ea. They don't do lightscribe or DL, but like, who gives a whack?

I won't even buy CD-Rom drives anymore. With DVD burners so cheap, it just doesn't pay to keep the old CD-Roms on the shelf.

Like I said, "Bring a truck!"
