I suppose i can't grumble. But I wish I knew what I'd done right (or to be exact what went wrong previously).
1. For a while now the other family members weren't able to see the folders I'd shared on my Vista machien to the other machines in the house. I've been banging my head on the wall for months.
Yesterday I ran a new tweak programme called "Ultimate Windows Tweaker" and changed various settings that might have been involved. I don't remember what they all were and I can't see anything I must have used. But it works! The kids can see teh shared folders again. But as I say, this begs the annoying question of what stopped it in the first place. It used to work well. I've checked all the security and access settings hundreds of times and couldn't find anything that was set to stop access. But access was stoped. And now it isn't.
2.) Handwriting recognition. That had vanisjhed too. While I was tweaking I enabled the built-in administrator's account. I was going to use that as a way to see if I could solve the first problem. I didn't need to do that, but, I did notice that the "Tablet PC Input Panel" was there. And when I went back into my ordinary account I was able to make it reappear there, too. Again, i don't know what made the change, and I should be really pleased it's back. But I'd still love to know why it vanished in the first place. Like with the shared folder access it used to work fine. And one day it wasn't there when I needed it.
Apart from anything else this all makes me feel very insecure with Vista. What function will just vanish mysteriously next?
I should add the source URL that i found it at.
