Most posts in this forum tend,( usually sooner rather than later Laughing ) to polarise along left/right lines.

I think it unlikely that anybody is actually going to change their voting patterns and preferences because of what another gnomie has written.

Now, is that because the quality of the argument and debate is poor.....
well not if there's any truth or substance to this article:

now where did I put my rationality, free will, copy of "Beyond Freedom and Dignity"........

What gets me, is not that I can't influence anyone's Political views, but that even as a very OLD computer tech, with years of hands-on experience, people won't do the simple things I tell them to do to fix their computer problems.

Neither a person's politics or religion are going to be changed by something written on an Internet Forum.

The person trying to change someone else's mind, is usually just making a jackass out of himself.

This would have been better, if posted in the Political forum.
Eh wot?

Cheers Mate!

Values and beliefs are the least likely for an individual to ever change their mind on, but preferences and less deeply ingrained views can be molded with discussion.

In my mind, the point of a political discussion isn't always to change someone elses opinion though. I see it more as a way for a community to sift through different views and provide better clarity or a wider perspective. This isn't always the case (especially when engaged in values and beliefs), but there have been a number of occasions where I read something here and thought differently of a situation.
