okay i have this error i can not seem to find any answer for on the massive self help system at ms.

picture it keeps trying to open an htm file from a location that is said to be

its,C:\program files\microsoft pictureit\

its is file _6 htm. or something like that. and it is giving me an alert that is looking like an file download alert with ignore , save, open, retry, abort, cancel buttons not all at once but any three of them on the alert,

it seems to want to go online but won't, it just keeps closing the program unless i click ignore but if i try to open a blank page to make a new image it closes picture it.?

if i open a file from my computer i can some times edit it and save it. but it also sometimes won't save it just lets me edit it then crashes.

i have no idea what the file is i can't find it anyplace.

i have over installed picture it and the alert still shows up.

has anyone had trouble like this before or this exact trouble and can you tell me what to do to fix it. or what to do to get it to remove the alert so i can use picutre it?
Confused
thanks.
Surprised

What OS are you using? "Picture It" is an old discontinued program for Win 95, and Win 98.

nice try there. but picture it was re done in 2002 and installed with windows xp. and xp pro.

it was last called by that year. " Picture It 2002 " so it is made to work with xp.
its just been getting a little jumpy when editing images the screen would jump like it was ducking a punch. some times bad some times not so much, then it started not opening png plus files when they were double clicked on it keeps trying to install picture it when i try to open them now.

and then it started this open or save or cancel alert for this blank_6 htm file. crap. it seems to be a little better now, since i reinstalled picture it, but it still wants to give me this alert for the blank_6 htm file. and still won't open png plus or other png files unless i get the program running and open it by using its built in browser to go to the files and open them.

i'm wondering now if it is needing something from an old java runtime file?
would a missing runtime file do this stuff?

Confused

The only thing I recall like that, is when I repeatedly tried to install a program a while back. It just wouldn't install correctly. I finally found that a program in my cache had a file with a same name, and Windows Install kept accessing that instead of the program on the CD! Can you think back to when this started? Was it near one of the MicroShaft updates? I'd make a restore point, and start cleaning any cache I came across!

(P.S. I knew it was updated, but I asked to see if you were using Vista.)

the jumping of the screen display started over a year ago.

this constant trying to download that blank htm file started about 3 to 4 months ago.

the thing is i have been cleaning the cache files every time i run cleaning programs. so there should be nothing stuck in the cache to stop it.

i'll just have to uninstall picture it completly and then clean the system and then reinstall it and see if that fixes the dadblasted thing.

if i could find a program for free that would do what picture it does and be easy to use i'd get it. but the ones i find are not easy to use on the tools like picture it is. and i can't find one that saves png files automaticly as work in progress templates, like it does with the png plus it has.

if i did find one later i'd have to convince my sister to use it. she won't change to new stuff she threw a fit when i wanted to take off the mediamomkey 2.5 version from this computer to add the new version mediamonkey 3.1 she refuses to learn new things. me i jump right in and learn new layouts. but she wants her programs the way they were when she first got them. going to xp was a easy thing from win98 cause 98 just started messing up so much. but now since she had to redo all here documents in excel cause they chaged that in xp. she will not go to the next version of windows until this computer turns to dust. Sad Surprised

not sure why shes like that but since these are her computers i just get to use them casue i have to take care of them i cant do much with out her say so. this xp still uses the windows 3.1 gray shell theme color cause she don't want to change. so xp pro looks like win3.1 or win95. this is what its like here. so changing to a new program for photos is not easy.
i have 5 of them now but she wants to use picture it. and not even mess with the others. its just easier for her on picture it.

long rant post sorry. Confused Sad

Just a thought but have you checked on any Picture It forums if someone else is having that same issue? Or how about if someone with Picture It can send you the missing file?

no i don't know of any of those forums and i gave up trying to find anything out on m$'s servers which seem to be filled with code's that you have to know to find the right answer. if it is even there.

i just came back here and asked where i use to always get help. Cool

i'm not sure it is missing the file. if i try to get it to download from online like it wants it says it can't find it? and then it lets me work in the program if i ignore the alert. so it seems to be something that is maybe on the system but cant be found at first? i'll just have to do that complete removeal and re installing and hope it finds it then.

Since I've never used it, I looked for some guidance as to what it is.
