| In my msconfig startup there are several unchecked programs which I will never want to startup automatically. Is there any way to remove these.

| Safest and easiest way I know of is a program called WinPatrol.
Getting the Plus version is worth the one time donation.

Mike,
YES, there is a Script that allows you to remove those.
I have it somewhere, but right now I'm on my Vista HD and it's not available to me.
(it's elsewhere)
I have no idea where I got the program, but you're welcome to it.
Now, I just have to find it and figure out the best way to get it to you.
I'll be back. Watch your PM's.

OK! I had to reconnect my XP drive and do some pretty exhaustive searching.
The file you want is a VBScript, and I originally found it on "Kellys Korner".
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Right column, line 148.
Just click the entry to download the file.
The actual name of the file you'll receive is:
msconfigdisabled.vbs
It walks you down thru the list of disabled programs and lets you delete them one at a time, or keep them if you like.
I'm constantly having to clean up my own Startup folder, as so many programs want to jump in there when you install them.
I wish more people would become aware of MSCONFIG/Startup and learn how to use this thing to keep their computer(s) running more efficiently.
Good Luck,

Placidarc,
I have been using Mike Lin's Startup Control Manager to disable and/or delete startup apps for years, without any trouble.
You can even recover deleted entries if you need to, or move an entry from one startup location to another, and even create new startup entries.
You can find it here:

| 'nother vote for startup monitor and startup control panel from Mike Lin. Those are the first two programs I put on because it stops things like adobe, real player, etc. running at startup. |

Hi Everyone.
Many thanks for all the suggestions. I'm sure one of them will suit my needs.

I still back up my entire C: drive to a single DVD, because I don't load down my HD with tons of needless software, like all those cutesy little "Feel Good" programs.
That little script is so tiny, that you could keep it on a floppy disk or flash drive and not even have to install it on your PC, for it to do its job.
And how often would you need to run it anyway?
Oh well, different strokes for different folks.
Good Luck to ya!
