okay now with that subject you expect a error or some type of trouble.

will its not doing any of those but it is causing some thing else and i don't know why it does it.

here is the situation.

i start ie 8 and as i am using it now. i can bring up the task manager
and find 2 to 3 iexplorer.exe's listed in the task manager's process tab.

i right click on one of them and close it trying to close the extra ie's and it closes all the ie's?

what for and why does ie 8 need to have multiple copys of the iexplorer.exe running ? or is it something my av or aspy programs can't find? Confused

It needs it because of the new tabbed browsing. If one tab is bad, it will not crash the entire browser. At least that is what I was lead to believe.
I don't have IE 7 nor IE 8 installed.

"Now that's just crazy talk." I mean, I believe you but what a bizarre thing for MS to do.

Upon further inspection I found that when I first open IE8 there are 2 instances in TaskMan. I opened up my 4 favorite sites in separate tabs and there are 4 instances. They were using up way more memory than Firefox with the same 4 tabs and several plug-ins (FF shows as 1 instance in TaskMan). If I set those 4 tabs as my IE8 home page then close and re-open it there are only 2 instances. However it is still using more system resources than FF. YMMV

I'll admit that this version of IE is a big improvement but not enough to warrant me switching from FF. Let your conscience be your guide.

Oh and if that wasn't enough. I have XP Pro SP3 with IE8 installed. I do not have a shortcut to IE8 on my desktop. But I found this:
1) Open up Windows Explorer and click on Desktop
2) There's a System Folder named "Internet Explorer" along with My Documents, My Computer and My Network Places. Of the four, My Computer is the only icon on my desktop.
3) Delete the System Folder named "Internet Explorer".
4) I get a Confirm Delete window that says "Are you sure you want to delete the Internet Explorer icon form your desktop? To restore it later, go to Display in Control Panel." I click Yes and Internet Explorer is gone from the Desktop folder.
5) Press the F5 key.
6) Voila! It's back!
7) Go to Display in Control Panel. Click the Desktop tab, Click the Customize Desktop button. In the Desktop icons Internet Explorer is not in there. Only My Documents, My Computer and My Network Places.

Not looking for a solution but that sure is odd.

I.E. is ODD!
That's why, (well, one reason anyway) I stopped using it years ago, when FF was still in diapers. Now that FF has grown up a bit and is totally house broken, I will use nothing else. Wink Very Happy

With the I.E.Tab add-on in Firefox, I still don't need I.E. (any version)

It just keeps life a lot simpler to NOT use I.E. at all.
