Hello,

Could that be a damaged installation file? You might want to download a fresh copy of Google Earth and try installing that, instead.

Just a Generalized response:

Things like that can happen when you receive something in a font that is NOT registered on your PC. Your computer does its best to display it, but without the correct font, it displays boxes or weird characters, etc.

Have you removed any fonts from your font folder?

I had that same problem when, on my old computer, I eliminated over 200 fonts. I found that removing fonts did NOT make my computer run any better and I would up shooting myself in the foot.....so to speak.

Good Luck,

I haven't deleted any system fonts for years. (Because I deleted any of the fonts I didn't want years ago).
I must admit I do remove fonts though. Purely as a matter of tidiness.

Oh well. G-Earth installed fine anyway.

Sometime last year, on my old machine, I got "tidy" with my fonts.
I found a little program called "Font Frenzy" to keep what I needed and remove the rest. It worked pretty well.

However, I found that each font file is so tiny that even removing 50 of them makes little difference to the whole scheme of things.
Once in a while you get a biggie like "Arial Unicode MS" at 2.2meg, but generally they are pretty small, taking up just a few killobytes each.

I searched long and hard and over several years before some kind soul, sent me the font, "Zapf Chancery". I had found it on many web sites, but they always wanted MONEY for it and I just couldn't see the point.

I'd be obliged to tell anyone wanting to pare-down their HD load, to look at all the pure garbage that M$ and other programs store there, before looking to remove any fonts.

Cheers!

For me removing a few (dozen) spare fonts is because otherwise I can't find the ones that I want.
