I have done just about everything I could find on here, and EA Games is no help. Maybe you can offer me some direction?
When I attempt to install OFB, I get an error message with nothing but a red X. There is nothing in my event logs to give me some direction. I can install it on my husband's computer, which is a cheap little laptop. Mine is a gaming laptop. I can install all of the other expansion packs with no trouble on my computer.
So, the CD is fine, my CD/DVD drive is fine, my computer can handle the game... so where is the problem???
I have updated my drivers, cleaned up my registry, done a clean game install, switched to PIO mode, all game updates are installed, installing from safe mode, renaming installshield, and so on, and so on (I've been battling this for 3 days.) I can see the CD if I right click and Explore it - just double-clicking it results in nothing; but clicking autorun results in the same error message.
I'm out of ideas.

| I'm sure that this isn't what you want to hear but it sounds to me like the CD ROM isn't reading the CD.
I've had similar things happen when using old CD-RW disks in older computers and when there was something wrong with the CD.
You can try cleaning the CD, I use rubbing alcohol. One of those CD cleaning machines will work too.
The other possibility is to return the game as defective.

But how can it not be reading it when I can see it, and when my husband's laptop can read it?
I can copy the files onto my hard drive, but I don't know what to do with them once I get them there. Most of the directions I've seen and followed leave me with a prompt to insert Disk 1, which of course doesn't exist when there is only one disk. EA Games support had me copying my files to my hard drive and then running Setup, which also doesn't exist.
Thanks for replying!

OK, I misunderstood that the CD-ROM drive wasn't seeing the CD at all.
Open My Computer.
Click on Tools, then Folder Options and then View.
Make sure that there is no check in Hide Extensions for Known File types and that there is a dot next to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
The second part shouldn't make any difference but just in case.
Now Explore the CD drive and see if you can see the Setup.exe file and double click on it.

Is it there when you put the CD in a different computer?

| No, but both of my husband's other computers will attempt to install it. |

I should probably clarify that a bit.
No, his computers don't see a setup.exe, however when we put the CD in them they act normally and initiate the install. We don't let it run because it's already installed on one of his computers and TS2 isn't installed on the other one.

It sounds like autorun is turned off on your computer.
Right click the autorun.inf file on the CD, open the file in a text editor like Word Pad or Note Pad and see if you can find the name of the setup file that it is looking for. Then try double clicking that file.

No, autorun is definately turned on. All of the other expansion packs autorun just fine.
[autorun]
open=Autorun.exe
Icon=Sims2EP3.ico
Name=The Sims 2 Open For Business
[Special]
Disk=1
ProductGuiID={****}
Thanks,

I'm stumped. You can try double clicking on that "autorun.exe" file and see if it will start.
That's pretty much all that I can think of.

I get the same error when I do that.
Thanks for trying!
