I have a linksys modem- http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagen...=US%2FL (the pic in that is not correct, click product image to see real one) and i have a dell computer http://www.comercialsmr.com/catalog/images/CPUS/tower/M975-2040-c.jpg not eactly sure what the name of it is tho. about 1 month ago i noticed my internet wasnt working but it said internet connection 3 is connected. it constantly wouldnt work everytime i turned my compter on, hald the time it would work but now it seems to never work without me unplugging the cord from the modem which causes to reset it. We had our internet rewired from my computer downstairs to the modem, thinking the wire was damaged somewhere along the line but no luck. The modem i have can hook up to 4 compters, we have 2 computers hooked up to it, a ps3 that uses the internet along with my wifi printer which connects to my comp then to modem nd a nintendo ds. we also have a laptop but that uses a wireless modem. It most likely is the fact that 5 things use the modem, but not all at once. My printer is always connected to the printer somehow even if its off and my computers off, but when i try to connect its usually just my computer trying to connect to internet along with my printer. Why doesn't it connect properly?

Could be a lot of things. It saying it's connected only means that your cable from your PC to the router is connected, it doesn't mean you are connected to the Internet. Can you connect to the routers setup page with IE? Have you removed any viruses or other type of infection lately, that can mess up your winsock and kill your connection.

Your first link was to a "Linksys EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch" you are calling it a modem but what you linked to is a router. The routers WAN port connects to your modem. To access the routers setup page though IE you type in it's IP address in the address bar at the top of the screen. For example http://192.168.0.1/ Once there you can log in and check it's status. If you have never done that I recommend that you do and at the very least change the password from it's default. The manual will tell what IP address to use to connect to it's web interface. Alternately you could open a command window and run ipconfig/all. The IP address listed as default gateway is the IP address of the router and the one you use to connect to it.

i get confused with routers and modems i dunt even know what the difference is lol. the ip address thingy isnt working, internet explore cannot displace the webpage... i tried opening the program but it automaticly closes within 1 sec, lookin for ip address is under LAN or High-speed internet not default gateway because it doesnt exist anymore, i deleted it since the computer was for my dads work when it was theirs along with 4 other connects, only thing left is LAN or high speed... and Incoming. I tried using ip address under LAN or... but it still wouldn't load the page. Thanks for taking your time and helping me Smile

I got the website working except blank username and admin for password doesnt work, fixing this internet is impossiblr

There should be a reset button on the Router, you might have to use a paper clip to push it in. That will reset the router back to the default settings and reset the password back to what the manual says it should be. Make sure you use the correct one, it could be admin or maybe even administrator, depends on who makes the router. In any case once you get in change it to something you will remember and that can't be easily guessed. If you have a wireless router this is very important as somebody could log in and mess with the settings. I'm retired and have all kinds of time on my hands and don't mind trying to help you. I'm not on my PC 24/7 though so you may have to wait a hour or two for me to reply if I decide to take my dog for a walk. Wink Smile

Thanks, Resetting it won't change anything else but changing it back to default settings right? And yes, i tried administrator and admin, my dad probably changed it but o well, he's out right now.

Reseting it sets it back to the way it was when you took it out of the box. It changes all the user configurable settings back to there factory default. It's like reseting the BIOS on your PC. At the default settings you should be able to turn it on plug the cables in and have internet access. It's a safety mechanism for a situation like yours where you can't log in anymore.

I'm not sure I fully understand what you said but here goes. You reset it, but it still didn't work. Then once your father unplugged his PC yours was able to connect? If you connect just his PC will it connect to the internet? Also if it does work what happens when you then connect your PC, do both PCs then get bumped off of the internet?
