Any idea what the below is used for?

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

* Click on 'Scan your PC' button. There should be a popup - if you have a pop-up blocker, make sure it's not blocking it.
* Click 'Check Now' & a pop-up window will appear.
* Enter your Country, State and E-mail Address & click 'Scan Now' - begin downloading Panda's ActiveX controls (8 MB size).
* Begin the scan by selecting My Computer.
* If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Ignore any entry it finds (since it wants you to buy the program for removal) as we will address this later.
* Click on see report. Then click Save report.
* Post that log in your next reply.

The last time I posted the hijackthis log was in vista. I tried to follow your instruction, but the for the life of me, I couldn't get combofix to run(not sure if it's related to the virus). I thought i could upgrade to windows 7, and maybe the bug would be wiped out, but apparently, the upgrade retained too much of the vista personal setting, so I found out the bug is still around. I ran hijack this again, here's the post. Do you have any suggestion as to how I can run combofix? (I've read multiple forums for a fix to run combofix, but no success.

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the order mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [browseiasd8] rundll32.exe "C:\Users\Timothy Wong\AppData\Local\browseiasd8\browseiasd8.dll", DllInit

Look for the below folder and rename it to something else for now (ex: browseiasd8OLD):

C:\Users\Timothy Wong\AppData\Local\browseiasd8\

Restart the computer and see if you still have the Google redirect issue. If so, does it matter what browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)?

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here.

If you still have problems running ComboFix (which sounds like it from your post there), delete it. Download it again, but before you save it this time, rename it to something like "CFganglion5.com" (keep the double quotes intact) instead. Then save it to your desktop and see if you can run it now.

I think deleting that registry is exactly what my computer called for. It's working now. In regard to the browsers, IE initially had the google hijack when in vista, but after windows 7 upgrade, it won't even work (just kept saying it wouldn't connect), while firefox was hijackable. Now both browser work. I still can't run combofix even with your suggestion, it says there's an OS incompatibility, only works on xp and before. Do I need to do anything else at this point?

Run ComboFix in compatibility mode (see here if you are not sure how to do this). You can run it as Windows XP.
