PostPosted: Fri Jun 20, 2008 12:59 am    Post subject: Installation Freezes

Hi, I have gone through numerous threads regarding frozen installations and what not and all of them are somewhat similar to my problem.

Now my problem is, when it is installing and gets to 23% and tries to install "control1.dat" it just sits there. Now I know it's SUPPOSE to ask for CD2 but it does not and I tried inserting the CD for the hell of it and nothing happens. It's been installed on my PC in the past and for some random reason it decides to stop working lol.

I have tried it on the Girlfriends computer and it worked fine so it is NOT the discs. Yes, I have cleaned the registry, tried safe mode, tried manually installing and all that jazz and NOTHING WORKS!

A little update to my problem. Since my post, I've been messing some more with it and I seemed to cause it to advance to the point where instead of being stuck at "control1.dat", it's stuck at "control2.dat".

The reason behind this is that I decided to unpack CD 1 into a folder and randomly thought of taking "control1.dat" from CD 2 and throwing it in with "control0.dat" so it wouldn't have to look for it. Which actually worked and continued on it's merry way till it asked for "control2.dat". Which I tried the same for and did not work... So now I am somewhat back where I am...

Hello Caboose and welcome to Lockergnome!

Have you tried a manual install? (see SIMS2 FAQ sticky thread)

Do you have another CD/DVD drive in your machine that you can use?

Do you have the latest firmware for the CD/DVD drive?

i have the same direct x boot error as eveyrone else but cant seem to fix it with their solutoins

i get the

failed to enumerate any directx 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system!

error.

i run windows xp sp2, i have sims 2 and bon voyage installed, i installed both the sims 2 CD patch, and the sims 2 bon voyage patch. i just manually installed directX 9 from the microsoft website, and updated my nvidia drivers from another link provided on the forums.

i have two monitors, the second is temporarily disabled and is a radeon 7500.

my main monitor is a geforce of some sort, and i updated the drivers for it as per one of the links in a 35 page locked thread that i surfed to these forums with.

all the updates have been done sucessfully, the install worked fine. it never installed directx 9 but i did that myself. I am still getting the error.

i recently reinstalled windows so i had to reinstall the sims.

what do i do!!

i bought the sims 2 dvd edition about three years ago and stopped playing. since then it some how got three deep scratches on it.

i recently had an urge to play it again but when i try to install, i get to 84% then a pop up says there is an error. i know the error is because of the scratches.

since i obviously don't have the receipt is there a way to get a replacement cd? if i go out now and buy, they all come with expansion packs. i just want the sims 2 alone.

Hi, I've read all the previous posts and can't see a solution to my particular problem...

I installed Sims 2 fine onto my laptop, however; while playing the game, the graphics will become blurry and elongate themselves across the entire screen, and the sims bodies move ten feet away from their heads.

Please, please help! This is really frustrating and I do not know what to do.

Hi,

I'm having problems with The Sims 2 as well. I have Sims 2, Nightlife, Open for Business, and Seasons installed at the moment.

For some reason whenever I try to load Riverblossom Hills on Seasons or try to save my created family, it goes to the loading screen and freezes. Many times the music continues to play but the cursor will either just keep spinning or disappear.

I've tried adding "-w -nosound" at the end of the target file, running it as administrator, turning off my firewall or allowing exceptions (window firewall), disconnecting from the Internet and turning everything off altogether without any luck. I've patched the game and recently updated my video drivers without any luck. I don't have a video graphics card btw, just a chipset. I looked in Windows Event Manager and it said that SimsEP5.exe had an error and called it a "Hanging Application." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling without any luck as well. Below are my specs:

Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP1
HP Pavilion dv6809us Notebook PC
3 GB RAM
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2370 @ 1.73GHz 1.73GHz

68GB of HDD space remaining after installation of all Sims 2 games.

Display Adapter: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I have a legal version and NO spyware, adware, viruses, etc. on my computer.

Thanks in advance,

Matthew

Hi, ok so ive had the sims2, the seasons add on and the pets and free time on my comp for aggges! so i got a new one mansion and garden stuff and when i tried to install it, my comp said there was no memory left, so i thought i could just unistall all the games then reinstall just the sims 2 and my new expansion pack. So i proceeded to do this and all the games uninstalled fine except for the sims 2 free time. I went through control panel and add or remove items and although the the sims2 freetime is no longer there i dont think its been completely removed from my computor. So ive tried reinstalling the sims2 and it work for about 2% then it says something about it not being able to locate it to a certain drive or something. Does anyone know how i can fix it?? i really want to be able to play the sims again!!

Ive tried the ccleaner but i dont seem to be able to get it to work (i should mention im no computor genius!)

any help wud be great thanks

also should add that once i get to 2% on installing the sims 2 it says- a problem occured when trying to transfer the file 'TSData/res/sims3D/sims08.package' from the media. Do you want to retry to copy the file or cancel the installation?

Hey, I downloaded the sims 2 and it runs fine but the carpet and walls don't show properly. The Carpet has a blurred image on every square and the walls flash black and red which is really annoying. Confused
I also recently installed the sims 2 kitchen and bath interior design and it just made it worse.
I tryed updating my graphics card, but it didnt make any difference. Sad

Can you suggest anything please??

Hello all,

Recently I tried installing The Sims 2 plus a couple of expansions. After searching the right order to install I installed all the packs I had. (Sims 2, Freetime, Glamour and Pets)

I tried running the game but when I start it up it gives me a black screen, error sound and quits the game. I tried everything to get a hold of the error it gives me but that is gone after the game closes. I'm sure my system is capable of running the game, although I have upgraded it with some new devices.

Some specifications:
Motherboard: Asus P5K SE/EPU
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
Memory: DDR2 667Mhz 2GB
Graphicscard: Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP3

Then I tried reinstalling some of my drivers, Direct X 9.0c / Nvidia driver but none of those options worked. I even tried downloading cracks to see if my CD's were broken. Then I tried installing The Sims 2 only, without expansion packs, it has the same problem. On my sisters computer it does work, so the game is not broken after all, it is something in my computer.

In my eventviewer I can't see what causes the problem, it sais it found an error but as description of the error it gives an error Mad .

I hope somebody can help me out!
Greetings, Mindcracker
