| I think the DirectX diagnostics for Vista is layed out differently. I've not really used Vista so I can't help you a great deal but i'll give it a go.
Have you always received this error?
Do you have problems with any other game?

Hello tt2k and welcome to Lockergnome!
Does this directX error happen with any other game?
Have you tried reinstalling the game and DirectX?
Have you got all the latest drivers installed? |

Hey again Zeus,
About always receiving this error: it only started when I installed "The Sims Free Time" I have every other expansion except Bon Voyage. Seasons and below never gave me any issues.
I tried playing "Age Of Empires 3" which takes DirectX 9.0c or higher
http://www.agecommunity.com/system_requirements_xp.aspx
It worked perfectly fine.
Let me ask a question where my problem might be: When I updated my drivers "the sims free time" was ALREADY installed, I never uninstalled it after then. Could that be the problem? Should I uninstall and reinstall it so that maybe it will recognize my driver updates? |

Hi Zeus,
Yes I have reinstalled and I have the most up to date drivers. Like the above poster, happended when I installed free time. Doesn't happen to any other game I am playing at the moment.
EDIT: I have now uninstalled freetime and bon voyage and it works again. |

Hello
I'm trying to install the sims2 pets but when it gets to 91% it says "A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file'C:\Sims2\DVD\Support\EasyInfo.exe' from the media"
Could you please tell me what I have to do to install it?

It's the expansion packs causing the problem i've seen many people with the same message when installing Pets, Open for Business, Bon Voyage etc I shudder everytime I hear about a new expansion pack being released. The only thing I can suggest at this point is uninstalling Free Time/Bon Voyage and Sims 2 should work.

I've been doing some research but all I find is people with the same problem and no solution. |

Hello eireabu and welcome to Lockergnome!
7. The installation freezes or you get an installation error.
First thing to try obviously is to check the CD/DVD for scratches or marks and clean.
Try renaming the InstallShield folder.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Double-Click on the C:
Double-Click on Program Files then on Common Files.
Right-Click on the InstallShield folder.
Select Rename.
Rename it to InstallShieldOld.
Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version.
Try installing the game in Windows safe mode.
If that doesn't work try a copying the files to your hard drive and installing from there.
FOR CD:
Go into My Computer.
Open drive C.
Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
Name the folder as Disk Images (it is important that the name has a space in it).
Open the disk images folder.
Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
Name this folder Disk1.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2 and so on until there are 4 'Disk' folders followed by a number 1 through 4. it is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number.
Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it.
Go into My Computer.
Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose Open.
When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All.
All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy.
Open the Disk1 folder you created under C:\Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder.
Repeat steps 9 through 14 for the remaining disks until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder.
Once all the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives.
Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation.
To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation is complete.
FOR DVD:
Insert the DVD into the DVD-rom drive. Exit the startup menu when it comes up.
Double click My Computer, then right click on the DVD-rom drive with the game DVD in it and select Explore.
Hold the CTRL key and then hit A. That should select all the folders and files.
Then hold CTRL and hit C. This will not look like it does much, but it's preparing to copy the files.
Close that folder and go to your desktop. Right click anywhere BUT on an icon, and Select New, then Folder. Name the folder Sims2 DVD.
Then double-click that folder, and hit CTRL and V. This will begin copying the files from the DVD.
Once the files are copied, remove the disc from the drive.
Double-click on the Setup icon in the folder.
You may delete the Sims2 DVD folder once the installation is complete. |

System Specs :
Nvidia GeForce 7300LE Graphics Card with latest driver installed.
DirectX Version 9 - all working fine according to dxdiag.
Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
2.80 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM
C: Drive has 226GB with over 185GB free.
I have Sims 2, Nightlife, Seasons, Open for Buisness,
Bon Voyage & Freetime with no stuff packs.
I can only seem to play my game for about 15-20 mins before
it either totally crashes & my pc restarts opening with a 'your system has recovered from a serious error' message OR it crashes & leads me back to the desktop with a Direct 3D error. Also for the first time since i've had the games (which was probably from the day it first came out) i recently witnessed the dreaded 'blue screen of death' with the nvidia4 stop error message.
I have the reccomended drivers installed, have done the driver cleaner program, latest version of DirectX is installed, my card is SUPPOSEDLY compatible but i have read so many forum subjects with people with the same problems!
Just wish i could play the game for as long as i used to be able to e.g hours and hours on end with no interruption please help!!
If more system information is needed let me know. |

Hello kristalicious and welcome to Lockergnome!
Have you tried older drivers?
Have you tried running system restore to restore Windows back to a time when it worked? |

| I haven't tried system restore because i cant remember the last point at which it worked. I've been having problems with it for at least a year or maybe more. I tried older drivers before but the newest nvidia beta driver seems to make it alot smoother & easier to play. I recently lowered my screen size in gameplay and although it gave me less graphic quality i managed to play for quite a but longer than usual before i had the D3DERR_NOTAVALIABLE error! |

Hello everyone,
I've got a bit of a problem. Yesterday, Sims 2 was working fine but when I started it today something had gone wrong. In the neighbourhood screen I saw strange white pillars or something and a vague error screen was shining through with something that looked like html codes. When I entered one of my houses, some of the wallpapers were replaced by something white with the same codes on it and red crosses through it. Some of the windows were also gone and you could only see an ugly framework on the wall (so without a window where you could see through). I restarted the game again, hoping it was a one time error but it was still the same. Even the wallpaper where you make a new Sim was white with all kinds of words and crosses on it. Does anyone know what this is, how it happens and more importantly...how I can solve the problem?
Thanks in advance for all your replies!

Hello fembot and welcome to Lockergnome!
Sounds like there's missing textures/custom content. Did you delete any custom content? |

Not that I know of but my computer is acting weird lately...having problems with starting up my computer and windows vista saying that I've deleted important software etc. It's all a bit of a mess. I'm getting a bit fed up with vista I must say. So I really have no idea what is going wrong and why my computer thinks that I'm deleting stuff when I don't.

I am, unfortunately, running Vista so that may have something to do with my problem...
I just bought "Sims 2, Double Delux" and I'm trying to install it. I get past the first couple steps of installation and then encounter a warning message that says I don't have enough memory in C: to install. And it's completely untrue. I have way more than enough to install the game!
How do I fix it?? |
