I'm surprised that this topic has not had any activity in the last six months.
Well, I can fix that. Wink

SpywareBlaster and MS Office didn't seem to want to co-exist on the same PC. The problem was written up repeatedly on many forums, including the forum that deals with SpywareBlaster problems, exclusively. NO solution was ever given, other than having to stop using either one or the other or just put up with Office wanting to re-install something every time you'd run SpywareBlaster.

I don't see that problem today, with the new version of SpywareBlaster.
It's been completely re-done and doesn't seem to disagree with any other programs.

More than spyware, I see an ever-increasing influx of "Rogue" programs pretending to be Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware programs.
These can be categorized as "Trojans" where they pretend to be one thing but in reality are just the opposite.

A great program to find and remove these rogues is "Rogue Remover".
I keep my copy updated and use it every week to remove the Rogues from my customers PC's.

As many times as I've told them, "Don't download any new programs onto your PC", they or their kids will do it anyway. Cheeeeech!!!

Rogue Remover is a FREE program and can be found HERE!

Every tech should carry this program with them on every call.
Rogue programs are causing a tremendous problem with computers world-wide.

[A word to the wise is Sufficient!]

Cheers Mates!

It's a topic, too important to ignore. Wink

This may not be Spyware or even a Rogue, but............Beware! Caution! Cuidado! Vorsicht!

AVG is discontinuing updates for version 7.5, (Aug 31, 08 for the FREE Versions and Dec 31, 08 for the Pro version) which is the only (last) version that works with Windows 98 and ME. Crying or Very sad

In my search for something that will work and work well for the older OS's, I read a recommendation for "Rising Sun, Anti-Virus".
Apparently it comes from the Pacific rim. Confused

Well it was billed as a FREE anti-virus program and it was with that thought firmly fixed in my mind that I downloaded it and installed it.....
only to get a window at the end of the Install, announcing that it was only a 30 day trial and encouraging me to BUY it.

Why do you have to BUY a FREE program? Crying or Very sad Question Question Question
I guess FREE meant FREE to download and install.....

Well, I was still willing to TRY it, until it jammed up my email (Outlook Express) and I was unable to receive email from my dial-up server.

Just too many negatives.....it's GONE!

I'm still looking for a 100% FREE AV program to protect my customers that are still running 98 or ME.
It must not only be FREE, but it must NOT demand a lot of attention from the user.

Hello,

For anti-virus, you could try Avira's AntiVir or Alwil's Avast, both are free for personal home (non-commercial) use. There is also Clam Antivirus, which is free (Open Source). The version for Microsoft Windows can be found here.

One thing to keep in mind when switching anti-virus programs is that they often leave objects behind after uninstallation, such as device drivers, services, scheduled update tasks, registry entries and so forth. If it s a good idea to check with the previous anti-virus vendor's technical support and obtain their manual removal instructions before installing the new anti-virus software. It might be a good idea to reset/repair WinSock before installing the new software, too. Instructions for doing this for Microsoft Windows XP can be found here in Microsoft's knowledge base. For older versions of Windows, you could try a program like LSP Fix.
