hi,

i tried to install and uninstall sims2 many times but it always display 'Failed to find a Direct X 9.0c compatible graphics adapter' or 'Graphic Adapter failure' error message. How do i handle it?

i'm using a laptop and i guess my spects are not up to standard but i reali wish to play this game. however, previously i have no problem install the other versions of Sims.

in the device manager section, i cant find 'display adaptior'. how do i go abt having one?? i have already download direct x 9.0.

i think my spects for this pc is: (copy from belarc)

512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Drives: 20Gb.

First of all... I have never been this disgussed with a pc game ever since I can remember, I have been waiting awhile to get to try out Sims 2. I have read many posts & troubleshooting tips from many websites, update video & soundcard drivers, I have done everything I possibly could do, I have uninstalled/reinstalled everything, including windows xp, newest drivers, sims 2 update patches, etc... I have done the -w -nosound test, it still done the same thing / same results. I disabled Hyper Threading Technology from the bios, same thing / same results. I have read many bad comments with other folks having problems with their Nvidia Geforce video cards and I am opt to believe that it is my video card? I believe I have more then what is required of Sims 2 to play.

System: Asus P4SDX MB
CPU: P43.06
RAM: 1 GB DDR
Onboard Sound: Soundmax - newest drivers
Video: Asus V9280 128 DDR MB Nvidia GeForce4 ti4200 8x
Windows XP Home Edition
Directx 9.0c installed & all tests has passed & no conflicts

PROBLEM: After the Sims 2 splash screen, I am getting a Windows xp error

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AppName: sims2.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.994 ModName: ~df394b.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0008e86b

Extra Notes: I have installed this game on my other home computer & it loads perfectly... its a compaq presario SR1023WM, it don't have half as much hardware as my main pc, go figure!?? lol So I know the disks & the cheap pc from Walmart is good. All help or information is greatly appreciated, my email is country26(nospam)@aol.com ...

Welcome to the Lockergnome forums vodkalime!

The mesage you are receiving is because of your graphics card not be compatible with DirectX 9. Simply put the graphics card isn't good enough to run the game.
A lot of game developers/publishers don't recommend running games on a laptop because the graphics cards aren't very good.

However I would suggest you try updating the graphics card driver just in case the games having problems with the current driver.

Download drivers from Europe
Download drivers from US

Hello Devil and welcome to the lockergnome forums!

Have you installed the patch? Patch download link
Have you closed all unnecessary applications?

I've looked on the EA customer support site but I couldn't find anything.
Have you contacted the EA customer support?

Hey Thanks for the quick reply & Thank you for the welcome!

Yes, not to be bragging, but I believe I know more then the EA Tech Support as with all these other bummed out Sims 2 troubleshooting geeks.. lol

I am down to its a Nvidia driver conflict with WinXP or Nvidia isn't putting all the combined video card support into their universal drivers, it doesn't loadup certain aspects of what the actual video card can do? My personal belief is that its a WDM or GART video capturing driver, since you can capture video in the Sims 2 games now. My Sims 1 & expansion packs works perfectly, also I have a ton of other games that I have never had this kind of trouble. I already know if I upgrade my video card, I am 99.9% sure that will fix my problem, but I don't see why I would have to upgrade the video card, when I paid $150.00 for I thought to be a dang good video card with the Asus Nvidia Geforce4 ti 4200 chipset 128 DDR 400Mz AGP 8x support.

I have updated my video card driver from both Asus & Nvidia, I have updated my soundcard, I have completely formated my hard drive & only installed windows & installed Sims 2, to see if it worked, same results, with the windows xp error message.

Whatever your suggestion or links you may have, please post them and I will see what happens?

All help is greatly appreciated & welcome Smile

I suppose you could try downloading the latest Nvidia BETA drivers?

Download from Guru3D

Please note: Nvidia do not support these drivers.

Hello...

Responding to the Nvidia Beta driver suggestion, I downloaded & installed the beta driver, I also went ahead and downloaded the current DirectX 9.0c - Feb 5, 2005, I did a complete remove of Sims 2, defragged, and reinstalled Sims 2, installed the CD patch and I still receive that annoying WinXP Error?

An Update...

Hello Zeus_GB...

I just wanted to post a reply about my winxp error popup, incase someone else has the same problem as me... After much appreciated help, I was wondering why a half-azz computer (compaq presario SR1023WM) with an onboard Intel Extreme Graphics can run the Sims 2, compared to my monster computer with all the must have computer hardware for gamers that wouldn't run the Sims 2. After all the troubleshooting guides about alcohol 120% causing problems with Sims 2, I did a mounting test to see if it was my brand new LITE ON - DVD-ROM (Model: SHOD-167T) causing the problem. As to my thinking, After changing the drive letters on the mounting drive in alcohol 120% to drive E: ... and mounting the Sims 2 disk on E: ... It loaded perfectly! Unbelievable!

I also went to Lite On webpage, but there is no current firmware updates for my DVD-ROM. I'm hoping they post one soon or if you know a universal firmware update, please post it for me. All suggestions about my DVD-ROM troubleshooting is very appreciated & welcome??

I hope this helps someone, because I know its frustrating buying a $50 game and it doesn't work...

Thanks for all the help & suggestions, it is greatly appreciated... Very Happy

Hello and welcome to the Lockergnome Forums emmwason!

Have you closed all unnecessary applications and background tasks?
Background task troubleshooting guide

Have you emptied your temp folder?
Temp file troubleshooting guide

If that doesn't fix the problem try working through the CD/DVD troubleshooting guide
You could try the DVD in another DVD drive if you have one.

Hello,
And thanks to ZEUS_GB for giving their time to answer our lil' worries! Thanks for your time and patience :P

Here is my problem. I've noticed it has been listed before, but I have other probs and I can't seem to be able to fix it..

I've got two problems.
"Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver. The application will now terminate ..."

And before I had that, (This only happened when I tried reinstalling the drivers and directx 9.0c), Sims 2 used to randomly reboot before I could even get in one of the towns. Note that the installation worked perfectly. And the sims bodyshop thing came with the game, and worked perfectly as well.

And it is not like that just with sims. Same with doom 3, and flight simulator! Or sometimes it just randomly reboots out of nowhere..heh but it didn't do that before I got sims.

Also, I would like to note that I have tested my direct x DirectDraw and Direct3D thingies in dxdiag in running, and the first Direct3D 7 test has FAILED.
I didn't see the lil cube! Gah!

Here's a bit of info: (gonna try to translate from french to english..ahaha)
g card : Nvidia Geforce FX 5200
128.0 mb
512mb RAM
Direct x 9.0c

And if there's anything else you need to know, tell me.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated, I have not been able to play sims since I got it (ages ago!) and I am extremely dissapointed

Thanks in advance..!

I'd also like to add a few shots from what I was able to see when the game did work for a few seconds awhile back ago.

(This is from bodyshop, see the white objects?)

And a little bit of the tutorial. It crashed 5 seconds after I took a shot..hah Sad

Hello and welcome to the Lockergnome forums Kazzie!

Does the system crash when your not playing games?
Do you have the Sims 2 patch installed? > link
When you say crash do you mean blue screen or the game locks up?
Have you updated your graphics and sound drivers?
Is the graphics card overclocked?
Have you closed all unnecessary background tasks and applications?
What version of Windows are you using?
Do you have all the windows updates?

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Yes the system does crash when I am not playing games.
Well, crash. It Reboots (But rarely outside of games)

I tried updating my sound and graphic drivers, although I'm not sure if I did it right. I'd need directions on that..!

Overlocked..?

Yep, closed unnessecary tasks

I am using windows XP

How can I check if I have the latest windows updates?

Thanks a bunch Wink
