Most free, and usable File storage service online?
I am looking for the best online storage service for my high-quality/large size digital photographs. I have approx. 2-4GB of individual JPEG files (2-4MB each), and more are on the way. My camera's memory card is filling up fast and I need to find an internet based alternative.
I am looking for a free service, with little, or no restrictions (especially with number of pictures uploaded/month, or how big the picture has to be, etc...). I just downloaded Picassa - Google's image hosting service. I hope that will be enough but is there another service I should know about? In case, Google isn't enough?
Thanks |

Hello,
Have you looked into using Yahoo's Flickr or Microsoft's Live Photos services?

One question always comes to my mind when someone mentions this... Do you REALLY want to trust someone else with YOUR STUFF? - for 4G+ of files you can very easily find a solution that YOU have control over. (unless you are broke as I am - )
But if you REALLY must - I suggest using one you can trust. Which one? Not sure but I'd THINK the ones mention MAY do. (I suggest you do some research)
BTW: my Bro. uses Shutterfly, I do believe. |

I take lots of digital photos, but the ones I'm going to save, I run thru "Photo Filer" and cut the size down. I even crop off peripheral background that's not important. I don't know how I ever lived without "Photo Filter".
And, camera JPG's are a lot bigger than a standard jpg.
I won't say MOST, but at least Many of us use "Photo Bucket" for a place to store photos and make them easily available to anyone you choose.
Then storing your stuff on DVD's or an external HD keeps everything safe and fully under your control.
I would never trust my personal photos to someone else's server.
Good Luck,

skydrive promotes 5GB of storage, but only allows you to upload 4 files at a time, which would take ages for someone with 1700 digitals to upload.
How does Photobucket compare? |

You can Multi-Upload to photo bucket, but again, you're stuck with the speed of your ISP and the net. I know if you BUY their deluxe service you get more features than if you just use the FREE subscription, which I use.
I'll repeat what I said earlier.... if you'll just burn the photo's to CD's or DVD's or save them to an external hard drive, they will be safely OFF of your PC and easy to retrieve at any moment, without going on the internet.
Good Luck,

Just my 2 Eurocents worth!
I tried about 30 of them because I need to send ISO's of DVD's I created over the net--I tried loads and keep coming back to the same one--not the fastest but you can send 2, 3,4 Gigabyte files in about 2 hours. Worth the free registration too...Badongo |

When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload 100MB worth of photos each calendar month. This is a bandwidth limit, and not an amount of space that you have on Flickr servers.
Your bandwidth allowance is reset to zero at midnight in Pacific Time Zone (Flickr headquarters time) on the first of each calendar month. You can't recover any of your monthly allowance by deleting photos. |
The limit on each photo is 10MB.
So if your pictures are 4MB each, you can upload 25 each month to store. |
