Thanks for mentioning this.

A few other people have reported similar problems. I don't know what's causing it.

I just tried posting in the moderators forum both with and without swear words, and I got the same error message. Rolling Eyes

Must be the new arrangement the ISPs have agreed to to protect children from anything untoward. It is now not permitted to post anything on the Internet that cannot be safely viewed or read by a 5 year old Laughing .

I honestly don't know what has happened regarding the automatic censoring of posts - maybe the Moral Majority has bought out phpBB (providers of the forum software) & the changes were included in the latest software update

I went back thru the entire thread where "Bucky" made his comment and I saw nothing offensive anywhere. Heck, I'm probably the most 'vocal' of any poster and so far (this week anyway) I've not been deleted even once.

Safe for 5 yr olds? I don't think so! Rolling Eyes
The subject of offensive internet content came up on a news program recently.
The interviewee said, "all you have to do is type xxx (the three-letter S word) into Google and see what pops up."
So you know, I had to go to my PC and try it. Right? Wink

WOW, I couldn't believe my eyes. The very first item on the screen contained active s** acts, with NO blurred or blackened zones. It was all right there for anyone, including that 5 yr old to see. And it wasn't just still pictures.....it was active video!!! A bit much for young eyes!

I've got all the spyware blockers in place as well as a custom HOSTS file, but nothing blocked my computer from going to that site.
I admit, that I don't have any "Parental Controls" in place. Being 65 and single, I didn't think I needed it. Maybe I do! Wink Laughing Laughing

I've seen forums that constantly **** out words or even parts of words that contain certain letter combination's.
Like the word "assembly" would come out as "***embly".
I think that's pretty ridiculous myself! Mad
I just want to scream, "Lighten up!".

It sometimes makes one struggle to express their selves without being subject to the automated Censor.
Fortunately, this forum isn't quite that bad......YET . Rolling Eyes

Bucky, you're OK, Dude! Hang in there!

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

PS: I would suggest that more people do what I do......I "Preview" every post, and I use a Spell-Checker too.
That gives me a chance to EDIT my post before it becomes carved in stone.

Google DOES have it's own filter that works pretty good (plus other settings) but how many people know how to get to it? A blind man can get to those stinkin' TOOLBARS but this is buried in a little word at the top right called "preferences". Then you have to scroll down where it says "safe search filter" & don't forget to "save" (2 buttons - top & bottom of page)- it is med. by default so surprised me that what you described came through, but then again, this IS the devil's world!

BTW: I find this filter about like all others - not perfect - there HAS been times I had to totally turn it off to get what I was looking for in an image search (& no, it wasn't nasty either, ha) but be aware, you DON'T want KIDS around if you do this.

What's wrong with this forum?

I could ask the same thing. Because.....

About half the time when I try to post something, I get an error message,
"No post mode specified" (I think that's right)

Then I have to hit the BACK arrow on FF and try again.
What a real pain in the ***! (you know what I mean)

I do wish someone would fix THAT!

Ok, that's my little gripe for today. Rolling Eyes

Hi folks,
Geeezzz... sorry I started all this. Embarassed
All I did was post a reply on my thread saying that the problem was solved and explained what I did.
The only thing that I can think of that I might have said was when I was talking about how long it took for the modem and the router to clear and reset.
After 30 minutes and nothing, I said "the he** with this" and disconnected them again and went to the store.
Came back about an hour later and everything was ok on both computers.
I guess you can't say the he** word. That's all I said, honest. Rolling Eyes Shocked
I will repost in the other forum about it.
Sorry, Bucky

I found & posted this under the "ghost image problems" thread:

I had that flag stuff catch me too so I did some checking & found it to hit on this word:
H A C K (spaced to pass) & multiple ! - if this (filter) is going to be used, it NEEDS to tell of the offending words!

So a note to all & especially bucky & the system admins, this is ONE false flag you need to watch for & correct.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMHO - this either needs to be turned off or the dictionary edited ASAP. - This thing is a total mess!
Thanks
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW: I also tried a few MINOR bad words & they went through. If a MOD wants to know, PM me.

but wow are there a lot of posts getting blocked from what all you have said.?

had a problem with a computer.

its mom's. my sister was installing updates and all the stuff for xp sp 3, then it would not go online? it would not do anything.
but give the 404 error and say it was connected?

it is fixed i just could not find anything on the web and needed an answer, so i was trying to ask here.

i sent email to some people and finaly found the answer to a simular error on ms knowledge base that was what i had already told my sister to do.

which was reinstall ie 7. well it got online but the computer was messed up it was showing ie 6, i think it is still showing ie 6, but i hope it gets fixed in a few more updates but atleast it is getting online now.

before you say its the ie 6 files that are in the sp3 that did it and i should reinstall ie 7 after the sp3 install. to fix it.
that is what was done. and it did not bring the ie 7 up yet?

there are some other things that went wrong too, but none of the stuff happened here when i did it on this computer? must be something to do with sony vaio? and xp pro.?

but its working now well enough to use online and it is protected with firewall and avg. and some other stuff.

got it cleaned out too hope it will run now for awhile longer.

is that enough clarifyin' for ya? thanks for asking. Cool

Very Happy

Hi all...

No roving cowboy, this is your thread. Wink
I started one in problem solvers about my friends computer not getting to the internet because of modem & router issues.
I noticed your posting and just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. Surprised
But problems are all solved now.
Have a great day all... Bucky

Sorry cowboy that I used your thread for Bucky - he said (in another thread I guess) that he got that & was afraid of what might happen next - just wanted to put his mind at ease & thought it was here. Need to check more. I DID P.M him if he see that.

Also, the topic is what drawled me here to post this. I figured everyone would see it here.

WELL, it finally happened to me too.

LG Forum refused a post of mine because I used the word "H*A*C*K*E*R" without the stars, of course.
But at least, I had the option of editing it and trying again.

Stupid censor!

Well, like I said, the dictionary is weird as to what words it picks on as I CAN put some nasties in here. - Maybe I should just to prove the point... Twisted Evil

But here is my PERSONAL VIEW of the whole mess:

As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been any language-moderating anywhere, but the only odd thing I've noticed is that the 'Mark forum as read' button doesn't work. Confused

Perhaps it's worth posting about it in the 'Forum Issues' thread, it might get picked up and acted on Wink

Well, Werebo, would you be so kind as to take on that responsibility, please? (or one of the other MODS)
As a MOD, I think it would have more of an impact & probably get expedited quicker.

Thanks

Well, the faults have been reported in the 'Board Issues' section, but I wouldn't recommend anyone holding their breath, waiting for the fix Wink

So, that's where LG Forum has come to?
No help with the problems in the software and an automated Censor that knocks a person down for using a Noun like h.a.c.k.e.r.

I bet that I could type prostitute and get by with it. Ya reckon?

I second the motion that the bad word dictionary should be edited by someone with some common sense.

Doc

Oh, by the way, I get past the "No Post Mode Specified" error message by just clicking and holding the "Submit" button with my mouse cursor, for about five seconds.

I don't know why this software takes so long to register mouse clicks.
I don't have that problem with any of the many forums that I frequent.
