Has anyone had this problem, and fixed it. Please help.

I have 2 dvd/multi drives. Both of which is having the same problem. I am having trouble opening the trays, i have to push the eject button 20 or more times before the tray decides to open.

I know it is a linux problem because both drives work fine under windows xp.

Thanks for any help.

please check in the file browser and see if the drives are mounted after the system has started as they maybe set to mount at boot also try opening/ejecting the drive/s from the file browser instead of using the eject button on the drives …

The only time I can see my dvd/rom drive is when i have a cd in the drive. I always try to keep a cd in the tray at all times so I wont have that eject problem. I keep some form of cd in the tray at all times otherwise my dvd/rom doesn't show up.

then please try adding the drive/s as a new drive via the file browser
something like CD/DVD 0 and CD/DVD 1 this should allow the drives to show in the system file browser after boot …

I actually hoped that by upgrading from 10.3 to 11.0 that my cd problems would solve themselves. I guess I am not going to be that lucky.

I did however figure out a new way to open my CD trays, I'm using a paper clip.

As I understand things in the Linux world you will need to unmount a drive before you can eject the CD. Every distro that I've ever used has a GUI tool to do this if you can just find it.
I don't have a Linux box handy that actually has a GUI on it to play with to give some clue but you would be better off using something else than a paper clip.
Do you have an Icon on the desktop for the drive? If so try right clicking it.

The only time I have an icon on desktop is when a cd is in tray. Otherwise there is no sign of drives.
