You guys are my last hope, I know it should have been my 1st one but I thought it would be resolved by now. This is whats going on...

I got a brand new system built for me

XP Pro SP3
CPU - 2.66 quad 12 mb L2 cache
Ram - 4gb corsair 2-2gb sticks
MB - Asus 750i
HD - 2 - 500gb Hitachi
GPU - 9800 GX2 Evga
PSU -850 watt
20x Lite on Dvd Burner
8in1 Floppy & Media Reader

Here is the problem : A Disk Read Error Occurred-Press Ctrl +Alt +Del to restart
This has happened with 2 Systems, 3 Mother Boards, 5- 4 Hitachi & 1 Seagate HD's, 3PSU's 2 sets of Ram etc..

When I received 6/13/8 1st system, loaded all my software that I have been using on my old system, got it looking & running the way I wanted to and then I shut it down for the night.

Now this is where the problem is at, IE: when I start up in the AM it usually boots good, then I usually check my e-mails 1st, then buy the time I'm through the e-mails, sometimes it will be 1/2 hour after that but what happens is system will FREEZE up, I will not be able to do anything, so I have to reboot then I get this error.

ERROR: A disk read error occurred- press ctrl alt del to restart

I end up sending the system back, when I received it again the next day errors where still there, I guess when they benchmark the systems b4 the release them to the customers they don't do a cold start, they prob do a bunch of reboots but I don't believe they do cold boots or they would have had this error.

They sent over a tech, replaced MB and PSU, good till next day cold boot up..error
Sent over Tech make sure wiring is hooked up right..same problems next day
Sent over Tech reseated CPU reinstalled OS..no good errors would not go away, 11 hours that time
Sent system back, while they built me new system
Got new system, next day same errors
Sent a different Brand of HD> Seagate next day same errors
I have reimaged, reinstalled OS, Reinstalled off floppy Storage Drivers many times, also reinstalled BRAIN by this time..3 months and still no stable system

HELP I'M AT WITS END,
Gary

What do you get with a totally clean install adding nothing else. I'm thinking it is something you are adding that is causing it. (or maybe a BIOS that isn't set up right*) Run it with clean install for a while & see what happens. Then if it still happens, I'd be asking for another system... (I wouldn't have messed with it THIS far other than to appease them into such a swap.) If not, then add one or two things & see what happens. Do this until all is on. Do this with clean installs of programs - personal files such a pictures, sound files & such won't matter.

I just re-read & saw this IS the 2nd system - If all this doesn't get it,... I'll sum this up in one word - REFUND!

--- I'll reserve any further comments / suggestions until I hear how this goes ---

* you may want to check the BIOS first thing & see it there is anything that just doesn't look right there - if you don't know what to look for then get someone you can trust, that does. - If you find something wrong, leave it & have the company see & "fix" it. So they note it & can't dispute there error.

Is it possible that the case design is causing an overheating problem? The hard drive may be overheating due to no air cooling. I've also found new systems with the CPU fan blowing one way, and the side fan blowing the other way - creating a vacuum instead of air flow cooling! Try it with the side off, and even a regular fan blowing on the system. (Keep the fan away from the monitor if it is a CRT type - may cause distortion).
