To submit a HIJACK report, there is a link at the top of the problem solvers (main) page. It needs to go there for the best help with HIJACK. Post this there & see what happens. If no results, then come back here & I'll see what I can do.

I WILL give you this to help you get started; I hope you know your was around computers. Go to your HOSTS ( you can do a search for it) file & check for entries that look like this:

127.0.0.1 www.trendmicro.com

If there ARE any delete them this is blocking you from accessing those sites.
Just DO NOT delete the following:

127.0.0.1 localhost

This one needs to be there for things to work right.

Now you SHOULD be able to download those tools. (unless you have more blockage issues)

antivirus xp is a new rogue anti-spyware program that is advertised through Trojans and other malware.

You might see this entry in your Hijack log
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [antivirus-2008pro.exe] C:\Program Files\Antivirus 2008 PRO\antivirus-2008pro.exe

You need to stop it from loading and clean up your computer.

Someone posted a link to removal instructions

The following is my "canned message for virus cleanup" This should help...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First turn off your "RESTORE POINT" this will prevent it from putting the "nasties" back (turn it back on when system is clean)

Then I suggest you throw some scanners at it, try;
Trend Micro online HOUSECALL (antivirus scanner)
Spybot search & destroy
Avast - as it will do a boot time scan, automatically if needed (you don't need to worry about the FREE REGISTRATION KEY to do this - unless you decide to keep it)

That ought to at least tell you if you have any "nasties" lurking. - if you DO, you will need to run the scans until it at least reports clean & then possibly a few more to make sure you got them all. Rotate through the last two. (run one then the other - back & forth) Tell it to DELETE as trying to "fix" will leave "JUNK" behind & without the virus code, usually scanners can't find it again.

Then you may have to do a repair install of your OS to fix any damage. Plus you may have to reinstall some of your apps for the same reason. Be aware of the APPS as you COULD reinstall the virus if it came from one of them.

NOTE, you can only have ONE antivirus running at at a time as they will "KILL" one another.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW: I don't know how OTHERS feel about this, or what the MOD's think about it so I'm just speaking for myself but it would be greatly appreciated if you wouldn't delete your previous posting as it makes it very hard to retrace steps taken - especially for others that may need the same help.

As a general rule of thumb on forums, at least the ones I haunt - Best to just add to the end of the on going post you started. You CAN (if needed) edit to ADD extra info to what you post. ( to clarify the same problem) For help with a NEW problem, best to start a new post.
