Recently I noticed that my AVG updates weren't happening and that I was getting notifications that the connection had failed.

My first instincts were that I'd tweaked something somewhere and broke it!

But it looks as though AVG are upgrading servers or something......the problem is their end....they are aware of it...it's temporary...they are sorry....they're working on it.

So if you're an AVG Free user......don't start doing "recovers" , re-installs or hi-jack logs.

This might save somebody some time or some worry.

here's the link to AVG forum where they posted about it:

oh so thats it another muck up by their servers.

i got that file to clean out the crupted file they posted last month or so.

you know the one that is to be clicked and then the next update the files will be corrected and re added.
i did that but i didn't toss the file, i set it up in task scheduler and run it from time to time to keep it cleaned up. seems to work but lately i been getting all them popup notices even when i turned the option off.

i got ten in the time i was typing a short email message last night.

it was driving me nuts. but i could go to the full gui and do the update that way, did not make sense.

so thanks for the heads up.

My recipe for reluctant updates from any number of programs is:

BUTA!

"Back up & try again!"

Maybe wait a while, or even try again tomorrow, but don't go crazy over it.
No update is that important.

I don't know how many people have already noticed it, but I'm seeing a general slowdown in the internet. Many web sites that I visit, used to come up quickly, but are much slower today.

I'm sure that some of the BIG servers are way overtaxed and the individual site that they host is suffering a loss of bandwidth.

So don't panic when you're not able to get an update on first try.
Go do something else and try your update again later.
Remember, AVG's update server is in the Czech Republic.

Happy Trails to you....Until we meet again!

Keith, open the main Interface of AVG 8 and click on Components then Update Manager. Check your settings; if you don't have it check every few minutes, you will not see those annoying messages.

I have it set to update on two computers but I have a time set when it will check. I get an i over the icon if it fails and that's it. I then go in later and manually check for updates.

thanks i do also have it set on timer, its just when that timer trys to get it then i get all those stupid popups i told it not to give me any notice but it don't care it does it anyway.? but thanks.

also i don't panic about the updates but it makes me mad when i am typing and it pops up in front of where i am typing and takes the focus away from the text area. but it seems they have it fixed now it does update from time to time so its working, Smile
