Post subject: audio output from laptop?

am trying to use my laptop as a dvd player. I have a 32" LCD tv and have no problems getting the video from my laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable. My problem is getting the sound from the laptop to the TV. I was under the mistaken impression that HDMI also transfered sound, but I guess that I was wrong. How do I get my sound over to the TV? The inputs on the TV are the basic ones, a couple of HDMI ports and lots of RCA plugs.

My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv9260 that I bought at bestbuy.
