Is there a way to fix it so that ZIP files no longer appear as if they are folders in Windows Explorer? I find this "feature" to be inconvenient and would love to turn it off, if I can.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

After posting my question, I found a link on this thread - http://help.lockergnome.com/index.php?showtopic=12264 - that gave me the answer:

Not Viewing Zip Files as Folders
Added 3/4/04

If you want to turn of WindowsXP showing Zip files as folders, just run:

regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

Now to see if it works! Wink

And this small freeware utility seems to do the same:

i.e turning the xp zip-function on/off as per you wish.

Regardless of how they appear, zip files just hang around and clutter up the place. Kind of like old Milk Cartons. :harhar:

They can really slow down scans too, so I just made a folder on my second HD and called it "My Zips". Then I moved all zip files from my C: drive to that folder. End of Problem.
If I ever want to revisit a zip file, I know right where to find it.
They can have really screwed up names too, so I generally rename them to something I can understand. Laughing Laughing

Just a thought,

Perhaps "just" a thought, but still a good one. Very Happy

Note, the above link leads to a paid program, not a free solution.
