I hope someone has the time to help me with this. I recently installed a couple of applications, Directory Submitter, Article Submitter, and a keyword analylizer. I cannot run any of them. All report an initial error message saying they cannot connect to the server, and then a windows error says that "xxxxx has to close", and I get an option to send an error report or not. I have downloaded and used similar applications in the past with no problems. It's like some setting has changed or something.
Thank-you in advance.

You've given us absolutely NO info on your system, OS, or whether you're using any Security Software or Firewall. Confused

So, we'd just be making "wildassedguesses" at what your problem is.

Fill in the blanks and we can make a more educated analysis of your problem. OK?

Sorry guys/gals.
My OS is XP-SP2.
I am using Spybot and Adaware for virus protection.
My company had to install Mcafee Enterprise for me to use my personal laptop on thei networks. I have cheched with their tech support and they "assure" me that Mcafee would not stop me from running any applications. Windows firewall is disabled. I don't know what else to add, let me know if you need more info.

drwho07, I want to thank-you very much for your reply.
Best Regards,

OK,,,,the plot thickens!

Spybot and AdAware are not Anti-Virus programs. They are passive Anti-Spyware programs and should not prevent anything from accessing the internet.

Your Windows Firewall was shut off by McAfee, because it most likely installed it's own.
That's most likely the source of your problem.
Can you access the McAfee Firewall and tell it to allow those programs to access the internet? If not, you'll most likely have to stop using those programs you mentioned as long as you're forced to have McAfee on your PC.

That was pretty stupid on the part of your 'IT' people. McAfee is well known as a huge resource hog and really not that good of a security program.

Oh well.......

Good Luck,

Doc,
I poked around everywhere I could fine as far as Mcafee file are concerned and I could not find anything on their firewall or any user interface allowing/disallowing applications to run. I will keep searching.
Thanks again for your efforts.
Mike.
