Hello,

A small problem. I listen ever so often to a radio show on my pc.On this pc(XP media center edition and using firefox) I get a messsage saying that I need to download a plugin to be able to hear the show. The install plug in now leads me to windows media player which I already have. The combinatiion of xp and firefox on my old pc has no problems with the show.I can listen to the show with IE but don't want to.Any ideas? I feel it must be in firefox but don't know what.

Hello,

Is the radio show you wish to listen to on your PC available in a different format? Also, have you tried using or installing a different multimedia player which might also recognize the format used by the radio show?

Regards,

Allo Franchise Smile
When using Firefox, do you have the 'NoScripts' extension working??? that will stop a lot of video formats from running until you 'allow' the scripts, either temporary or permanently...

WereBo,

NoScripts extension? Where is it?How do I find it?

FireFox asks for a plug in to be installed with any program requiring audio>I found this out last night.Did try Real player with the same results.

If you try here, there's a range of plug-in's that you might find useful. Also a link to the 'Extensions' page with lots of goodies.

You'll find the 'No-Script' and another useful extension 'Adblock' which gets rid of ads on the page Wink

When installing the various media-players, (RealPlayer, Shockwave etc), they don's always install the plug-in to link the web-browser to it, which is why folks get the problems you seem to have. The various media-player plugins should (hopefully) solve the situation (fingers crossed Wink)

Werbo,

I give up!Think I'll just use IE tab to view the site in IE.Are there any real problems with this?
I learned from FireFox forums that this is a problem.Tried a few of the things suggested but nothing worked. Could use the older pc but that hurts my pride.
Thanks you all for the help.

It might be that the radio-site is 'aimed' at IE, rather than being compatible in all browsers, there are still sites around Sad...

This page has an extension that will let you browse IE pages in Firefox and other Mozilla browsers. It's called 'IE Tab'

Werbo,

Got it done! From a firefox forum I followed these instructiions:

Checking Windows Media Player plugin installation

* For this to work, you need to you have Windows Media Player 9 or 10 installed. They can be installed through Windows Update.
* You can test the Windows Media Player plugin here:
o Broadband: http://members.aol.com/jrzycrim01/mozilla/wmp/vidtest-HS.html
o Narrowband: http://members.aol.com/jrzycrim01/mozilla/wmp/vidtest-LS.html
If those test players work, then the Windows Media Player is installed.
* If they do not work, you need to check that Firefox can detect the Windows Media Player plugin:
type about:plugins into the address bar. This will display Firefox's plugin information. If the following entries are present, then WMP is installed correctly:

* The "Microsoft® DRM" entry with the filename npwmsdrm.dll might be called "Microsoft Corp. DRM Netscape Plugin" instead.
* If any of these entries are missing, the Windows Media Player plugin is not properly installed.

Restoring the Windows Media Player plugin

* If any of these entries are not present, look for the files in the Windows Media Player directory (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player), and copy then to the Firefox plugins directory (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins). Then repeat the previous step and check the files are all there.
* If some of the files are still missing, you can download the individual files from dlldump.com:
o npdsplay.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/N/npdsplay.dll (this is the updated version)
o npwmsdrm.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/N/npwmsdrm.dll
o npdrmv2.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/dllfiles/N/npdrmv2.dll
Download them to the Firefox plugins folder (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins) and then restart Firefox.

Downloaded the files to desk top, sent them to my documents, from there to firefox\plugins.

Nothing has blown up yet.Boy was I scared!

Love it when I stumble upon a solution.
