I hate to burst your bubble, but most of the people coming to these internet forums looking for advise, help and sometimes a rescue, couldn't care less about reading some nerd's blog or what's going on inside the Kernel of some OS.

It usually comes down to "How do I fix my problem? FAST!".

sorry bout dat! But that's the world I live in......fixing peoples problems, in the
quickest and less costly manner possible.
I do it every day...... been doing it for 29 years now, without ever reading a Blog.

Ain't that amazing?

Well, Windows 7 RC1 is finally released and is being downloaded and tested as I type this.

The consensus is that RC1 and build 7077 are pretty much identical.
That's my findings as well.

If anyone reading this forum is also testing Windows 7 RC1, please give us your impressions of the program.

Win-7, RC1 (64 bit) has been running fine on my PC, except for a few Utilities.
I'm hearing that there are quite a few changes to the basic core of the OS.

But for the average user it's what's up front that counts.
How does it look and how does it feel? How does it run your favorite programs?
Faster? Slower? Or, not at all?

I find that things that were easy to change and customize in XP were much harder in Vista and nearly impossible in Win-7.
But spending quite a bit of time reading the windows 7 forums has taught me a lot about the work-arounds needed to get where you want to go in Win-7.

For instance, I was looking for the box to un-check, like I did in XP, to shut OFF Hibernate. There ain't none!
Now, that's a real kick in the pants!!!

Well after some Googling, I finally found the answer.
I found that from a command prompt (CMD) I could run one little line and take care of the Hibernation problem. I put that command in a batch file and now I can shut down Hibernation any time and anywhere I want.
Here's that command:

powercfg -h off

Now ain't that simple? Wink

I'm slowly developing my own little 'package' of batch files, registry scripts, etc., to tweak and tune Windows 7.

It just takes time and perseverance.

As for dual booting: I built a new computer (eventually it will be my "work" system), and have Win7 RC-1, and the newest Ubuntu. Ubuntu has a built in boot choice menu. If I don't choose Ubuntu within 15 seconds. it automatically boots into Win7.

Thanks for the Win7 site Doc, now maybe I can find how to eliminate the log-on password. I live alone, and see no use for a password!!! Ubuntu has this also, I haven't bothered with that yet!

Never, Never, Never , but Never, put in a password during the installation of any OS.
Type a name in the appropriate box and just skip the password box all together.

With NO password being put in, your OS will boot up to the Desktop without ever stopping to ask you any stupid questions. Wink

I too live alone and have no need for any passwords anywhere on my PC. Rolling Eyes

if you have a large enough master drive then partition it.. then win 7 will auto set up the bootloader to allow you to chose which os to boot into.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? But if that one drive crashes or just becomes corrupted, your problems are just starting and your day will be ruined.

When playing around with different OS's at home, putting each OS on a separate HD will avail you much.

Making a backup of one drive to the other drive will always give you a way out, if there is a problem with one drive. Stuff happens!
