Hi All,
I am dual booting Windows 7 Professional with XP Professional and have cable broadband that allows up to 10mbps download speed. With XP I get the full speed but with Windows 7 I get 1mbps if I'm lucky (tested both at speedtest.net).
I've downloaded the latest drivers for my nic card from the manufacturer [Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet Controller] with no improvement. Confused

Any and all ideas are gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.......Tom[/b]

Hello,

Are you using a residential gateway broadband router between your computer and the cable modem? If so, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.

Is this the version you have? 11.23.3.3
I see it was released on 8th January.

If not, try that version.

Hi All,
Upgraded the firmware on my router with no change in download speed on Windows 7.( XP is still great.) I noticed there are some optional settings in the device manager on the advanced tab that I've never fooled around with before, such as Flow Control, Jumbo Packet, etc. Any chance the answer is there? Confused

Thanks again......Tom

Hello,

Another thought: Microsoft Windows 7 ships with a different TCP/IP network stack than Microsoft Windows XP with different settings to obtain the best throughput from the network connection. It could be one (or more) of these settings is not optimal for turning the specific network connection provided by your Internet access device.

The solution for this is to disable the auto-tuning setings of the network stack. This can be done by opening an elevated Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE) and entering the following command:

c:\windows\system32\netsh.exe interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

When done, restart the computer and see if that make any difference. If not, or if it is worse, you can restore the original settings with the following command:

c:\windows\system32\netsh.exe interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Hopefully, though, the first command will solve the problem.
