| am i the only one to have seen the new forum look?
it has nice layout and images, still does not take me to the same page i was viewing when i logged in but the site is nice looking with all the question marks in the background.,
and it uses your own desktop's notepad window color in some places.
which helps get rid of the ( blinding white that is still here. )

| Not to rain on anyone's parade but...
While I "think" my problem with "Mark all read" might be fixed (I'll know more tomorrow), now I'm stuck with a "1 UNREAD PM" that came three days ago.

The new colors and the huge "Help!" caught my attention immediately.
I tried the "Mark all threads as read" thingy and by-dang.....it actually worked!
However, when I blocked some text I had just typed and tried to add color to it...
that didn't work. There's a way to do it, but not in the 'old' way.
I'm still waiting for some official word on the changes. So far, I've seen none.
If past experience with this forum serves, there will most likely be NONE.
Doc
At least the smilies still work!
EDIT: I spoke too soon.....I tried the "Mark All topics as read" thing on this forum and it didn't work. |

I noticed the new look at the top as soon as I came here today. It's nice because it now differentiates this site from a host of others that use the same forum software.
I haven't pressed any of the buttons to see what works and what doesn't.
I do know I highlighted a link and was able to choose open in new tab so I had to copy and paste it. (This could be my FF addon or lack of an addon). I suspect all links were made safe so you can't accidentally be sent to a rogue site. There is a lot of driveby malware going on with the av2008/2009 fiasco. Lots of people end up with this and then the theives want money to remove it from your computer. I guess if you can't make and sell a decent product, you go for an infection and blackmail people to clean up the computer. |

| I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the new look. I like it - it stands out from the crowd a bit. |

Adding new color sure didn't fix the forum software that's still "Broken".
The "Mark all topics as read" button still doesn't work right and now to add to my frustration, I can't block some text and add color, or make it Bold, italicized, or underlined. I also can't go back into my post and add smilies.
They must be added as I type, otherwise they jump to the end of my post and I have to cut and paste them back to where I want them.
If "they" can't do something to this forum without making it worse, I wish "they" would just leave it alone.
We're loosing members fast enough, without screwing up things that we all use every day and have grown accustomed to.
I have to scrounge thru the whole forum to just find a few new posts each day.
Other forums are getting tens or even hundreds of new posts every day.
Keep screwing up this forum and we won't have any forum at all.

In Firefox I don't see errors but just the result of them.
However, right now I'm in I.E.6 and every time the page changes I get this error message:
A Runtime Error had occured.
Do You Wish to Debug?
Line 736
Error: '_gat' is undefined
Why won't people believe me when I say there's something wrong with this forum software???
To be "right" the software has to work over many different platforms and browsers.
Previously this forums software worked just fine in Firefox,,,,,now it doesn't .
With more and more users going to FF, that performance is unacceptable.
Yes, smiley placement and COLOR do work in I.E., but no longer work properly in FF.
What did "they" change, and WHY?
Remember the old saying, "If it's working, don't F' with it!"
Of the other 16 forums that I work, all of them work just fine with FF, now this one doesn't. I'm outta hear!
Cheeech! |

To answer the topic question - You can't really miss it - and, personally, it sucks!!!
This forum seems to be going the way of a lot of businesses nowadays - anything goes wrong, so the cheapest/easiest option is a tosh of paint to cover it up and draw attention away from the faults.
New members are highly conspicuous by their absence, in the 5 days since I was last here, there's been 1 or 2 new requests for tech help - I know the tech-help gnomies are good, but they can't have fixed every PC in the world, permanently. |

Hi Bo!
I consider myself a pretty good tech, but there's always someone better.
In fact, some of those "Better" guys used to be HERE.
But they got disgusted with the change of forum software a few years back and left.
I regularly see them on other forums, where hundreds of problems are being addressed every day.(not just one or two)
Chris doesn't seem to give a crap about this forum any more, so who do we complain to? I used to get a lot of help from Deborah, but she's absent too.
It's just SAD.....VERY SAD!

Whether he does or doesn't, people are entitled to wonder. I started a thread in July but didn't get a reply, so I began to wonder as well.

If there's a glimmer of a silver lining to this black cloud, it would have to be the lack of Ads, Banners and pop-ups all over the place.
I even shut off 'AdBlock+" for this site and still see NO ads.
Now, that's a REAL improvement !!
If only the tags worked correctly in FF all would be acceptable.
I'm getting tired of typing in the tags when I want or need them.

FINALLY, I'll echo that "WOW" with one of my own.....
WOW!
Tags are working again,
There are NO adds, NO banners flipping and flopping all over the screen header and NO big add bar down the right side of my screen.
(and, I have AdBlock+ turned off for this URL)
Finally, not the least of the improvements......
The "Mark all threads as Read" button works.
Someone's been busy!
And, I want to thank them for their efforts.
(Thanks Steve!)
