Post subject: Transfer data to new PDA?

Just purchased a Palm TX to replace my rapidly aging and going down hill Tungsten E. Since it's been a while since I last changed PDAs, I'd like some advice on easily moving my old data to the new device (without having to purchase additional s/w!).

As I recall from the last time, I think I did one last full sync on the old one, installed the new one, changed the sync to copy desktop to device just for the first sync, then did my first sync on the new. And finally, changed it back to a regular sync.

Is that still a plan? Will it work on the TX and the T-E? Is there an easier way? I know I can reinstall all my apps, but obviously I don't want to lose the data.

TIA

Hello,

It has been many years since I've used a Palm OS device, however, when I did, I used Blue Nomad's BackupBuddy software to migrate from device to device (PalmPilot Professional -> Palm III (IIIe) -> Palm Vx) before moving to a Windows CE-based device (Compaq iPaq).

From what I recall, your plan should work, however, you might want to consider verifying that with the experts in the Palm Forums.

You might also want to consider purchasing a program like BackupBuddy, anyways: I originally switched to it not because of upgrading, but because of problems syncing data between my PDA and my PC. I suspect that Palm's HotSync software is more reliable and less crash-prone these days, but it might not be a bad idea to get a copy just in case. A copy for personal use is fairly inexpensive.
