|
|
Does anyone know where I can download all the drivers for a Toshiba Sat. p100, for FREE? - (OS is XP-pro)
All the stinkin' links I hit so far, wants money. (& they have the nerve to ask AFTER you download & run there scanner)
A friend of mine SOMEHOW blew away his OS & he THINKS he didn't get CD's (no "rebuild" on HD either) so I have NOTHING which to rebuild this system except my own tools & XP CD.
And on top of it, for some reason my tools that tells me what the devices are (and/or drivers needed) doesn't seem to want to work.
Thanks |

I found the drivers at the Toshiba website. Took a bit of searching but once you find the same types of PCs you should be able to find the drivers. You could also try a file recovery disk like Recuva or an Undeleter if you can get one! There are several online for trial and for free! |

In my own experience with Toshiba laptops, I've found that they come out of the box with a Restore disk, usually a self booting disk with a Ghost image of the original factory install.
Possibly, a message to Toshiba could get them to send you a copy of the restore disk for that little PC. Just a thought.
Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Thanks to all for helping...
I went to toshiba FIRST & they list P100-STxxxx but NO straight P100 & I don't see anything on the NB that would be an ST # so which one would it be is the 6 million dollar question?
As for file recovery / undelete, he already reinstalled to the HD. I THINK that is how he blew it away. Tried to do a repair install & did a regular instead.
I, too, thought there were disk. Especially since there is no recovery partition / files on the HD. But even at that, if he DOES have them, he doesn't know "where" they'd be.
I may just HAVE to contact Toshiba. If nothing else, THEY can tell me where to get them. (I would HOPE, anyway) |

| As far as I know, Toshiba has never made a "straight" P100. Have you looked at the bar code/label on the bottom of the laptop? The -STxxxx designation is usually there. |

Yep, that is where I got the info I DO have.
The MOD & SERIAL # don't even give a clue, either.
And unfortunately, Toshiba is "closed" until after the 1st.
The PART # as printed is:
PSPA6U-02F0128
Does this give anyone a clue? |

Some of the Recovery downloads I saw CLAIM to be able to recover from many problems, reformat included. Reality may be a bit different from their claim but since the software is free in many cases it could be worth a shot. I personally keep at least 3-4 different ones handy since no one program could ever detect or recover everything that is available.
I bought my laptop used from a student doctor who had reformatted and reinstalled the XP. The first thing I did was to test my Search and Recover2 which found about 2,000+/- files. Some were beyond recovery but just the fact that I got into the files was encouraging! Forensic Recovery may be a good search term also! |

Hello,
Have you tried running a program such as Belarc Advisor or Realix HWiNFO to see if they can more precisely identify the model of Toshiba notebook computer?

No, this is the first I've heard of them.
After using linux, I do now have a list of the devices but even with the exact device names, I'm still not able to get what I think should be an easy retrieval. You would THINK all I'd need to do is go to the manufactures site & D/L them, well think again... & even M$'s (last resort) updates doesn't get it. (not surprising)
I've got some other things to do to it so I figure my best bet is just to get with Toshiba when they "open".
Thanks to all!!! |

I'm probably not the most organized person in the world, but, I have one place and one place only for everything, like driver disks, that pertain to my PC.
How someone could buy a new computer and not save the restore disk(s) that came with it, in a safe place, is beyond my understanding.
Believe me, if I ever buy a laptop computer, I'll put the restore disk in a fireproof vault somewhere.
And, if the lappy doesn't come with one, I'll whip out my Ghost backup program and I'll make my own restore disk.
Which, I would do anyway after the initial setup.
I've done that for many of my customers, who don't have a Restore Disk for their PC. A bootable Ghost disk is a great hedge against disaster.
Oh well, I guess I can't fix the whole world, but I still wish I could.
Happy New Year Everyone!

I did the same. I got my new laptop, got it all set up like I wanted, and did a complete B/U to my external HD (I use Acronis). I do other B/Us, but I have the "base" system if I ever need it! |

Well, maybe I shouldn't say this, but this man has some brain damage & under NORMAL circumstances would have his stuff together, & he mostly DOES. So even I wasn't sure if he got them or not.
I AM teaching him to IMAGE but he doesn't seem to quite grasp the WHOLE procedure, yet. But we're working on that. |

I've assisted users all over the world, to get used to doing Ghost Backups on their system, with Ghost 2003. This goes back several years now.
I wrote a click for click tutorial on the process of making a Partition To Image backup.
Maybe you could try that.
Write it all down....showing every mouse-click or keyboard entry.
I know that such a tutorial has always been helpful to me when doing something with which I'm not familiar.

BT,
You mean you actually got a hold of Toshiba and they agreed to send the disk?
I've only had to use a Toshiba Restore Disk one time.....when the user didn't do what I told him to do and leave the PC alone till I got there to set it up.
He plugged it in and started the install and then got confused and unplugged it.
When I got there it was in an endless boot-loop.
I had to use the Restore Disk to take it back to Factory Fresh.
I was pleasingly surprised to see it was a Ghost Restore Disk.
Keep us informed as to how that restore goes......
Cheers Mate!

Not sure if he had to buy them or not. The last I talked to him he was in the process of trying to get them to send him some for free. Will find out when I go to finish the repair. Will let you all know.
BTW: for no more than it would have cost, ($25 expedited), to me, it would have been worth just buying them & saving the hassle. - & 2, with image files, I too, very seldom use restore disks any more. But a DRIVERS DISK is like GOLD! (when I need it) |

I had to rebuild a Toshiba Laptop over the holidays. It was an A100 and I needed XP Pro drivers. I couldn't find them on the Toshiba website, but then came across the Canadian Toshiba support website here:
http://support.toshiba.ca/support/download/ln_bymodel.asp
and was able to find my model number and download everything I needed. You didn't say whether this was in the US or Canada, so thought I would mention this.
Good Luck. |

Well we FINALLY got the disk (free) & everything went pretty smooth. But for some reason there appeared to be no video driver on the CD. The recovery didn't load one & I couldn't manually find / load one from it, so ended up getting one from Toshiba's site (which I'd luckily found before when trying to find drivers)
Now he is all back up & running & has an image file to fall back on just in case.
Plus I have him ready to do image backups on his own.
Thanks to all for all your input. |

That's great.!!!!
I'm so glad to hear of your success
Just for general information:
I just installed a WD 200 gig IDE drive in my "AirLink 101" 5.25" external enclosure. It can use FireWire or USB and I decided to use FireWire because it's like 4x faster than USB.
Well after turning on my 1394 port on my mobo, I made all the connections and tried to do a Ghost 2003 backup.
Ooooops! Ghost 2003 could not even see that FireWire drive. Too old.
I then tried Ghost 11.5 , booted from a Flash Drive (which I use for Vista) and everything went off without a hitch.
I did a Disk to Disk (clone) of my main drive to the External Drive.
My 34 gigs of data (my entire main drive) were transferred in just 40 minutes.
I just mention this because I know there are a lot of users out there still using Ghost 2003, like I have. It just doesn't have built in drivers for FireWire.
Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?
