Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)
Quote:
In a new indication that the balance of power within the administration of President George W. Bush has tilted strongly in favour of the realists, Washington's influential ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, has disclosed that Bush has authorised him to open direct talks with Iran about stabilising Iraq.

Quote:
Washington's growing reliance on and support for regional diplomacy marks a serious setback to neo-conservatives who, long before the Iraq war, had championed the unilateral imposition of a Pax Americana in the Middle East that would put an end to what in their view constituted the chief threats to Israel's security -- Arab nationalism and Iranian theocracy.

Now, two and a half years after invading Iraq to put that peace into place, the administration finds itself seeking the support of both forces, just as the realists had warned.

No one wants to attack Iran but the course they are on could lead to it. The EU is going out of its way to come up with a solution that will let Iran have what they claim to want and make the rest of the world a little more comfortable in the process. Its not the US that threatened publicly to wipe Israel from the face of the earth, that would be the Iranian President. Rhetoric like this is irresponsible at best and definitely will not help them to get what they want, why allow them to have the capability to make enriched uranium which can be used both for power generation and making nuclear weapons when their publicly stated position is the annihilation of one of their neighbors. With talk like this how is anyone to trust them to keep it peaceful and not use it for weapons? I believe the wisest choice for the Iranian president would be to accept the EU's offer and make a public apology to Israel, this would be a starting place for trust to develop if Iran is truly interested in helping its people.
