Hi, new to the forumn, thought someone might be able to help me.

1/ I have a yellow blinking exclamation mark icon that binks and states the following:

System Alert: Popups

Your computer is infected with spyware managing popup advertisements (OHPE ver 4.12_23). Click the icon to learn more on what you can do about pop-up windows and other unwanted software.

2/ I also get a System Warning box that pops up:

System warning!
4 errors found:
- Your computer slowed down
- Your internet connection speed has decreased
- You get popups and annoying ads when you are online
- Your default homepage has changed to one you didn't ask for
These are true signs that you may have spyware or other unwanted software installed on your computer.

Click ok to download....

I tried downloading this spyware doctor. Was that a mistake?

If that's the real Spyware Doctor it isn't free, except to try.

Suggest you uninstall it and get Windows Defender, update it, and run a spyware scan on your computer. To get the update to go, you have to have Windows Updates set to Automatic. You can get Defender here.

You can also get, install, update and run this freeware spyware detector:

If you are seeing those while you are on the Internet then just ignore them. It's just a ploy to get you to download something you don't want. Programs sold in this manner usually aren't what they claim to be. If you aren't browsing the Internet and you see those messages you may already be infected with malware/addware.
